666: THE PROPHECY is ANOTHER end of the world/prophecy type religious horror film brought to us by SAW II director Darren Lynn Bousman. He's an odd choice to helm a film like this, but after watching it I can say it doesn't really matter; this film is a mess anyway, lacking both budget and adequate lighting, and the story that plays out is the most predictable you'll see.
The film was financed by American backers but apparently shot in Spain. The dull protagonist finds his life haunted by the number 11.11 and is soon convinced that some world-changing event is coming about that only he can prevent. There's a massive twist here, but it'll surprise nobody watching, and the rest of the film is mired in poor acting and over-dark cinematography. Some brief but rubbery effects don't help much. The best thing I can say about 666: THE PROPHECY is that I liked Wendy Glenn and that there's some adequate foreboding built up along the way, but that resolution really is poor. As a whole the film is similar to the Jim Carrey vehicle THE NUMBER 23, but just as disappointing.

Plenty of foreboding, but the payoff sucks
THEY'RE WATCHING YOU...
Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs) is a famous author who writes thriller novels. He tragically loses his wife and child in a fire...one where we see the shadow of an angel in the background. Joseph takes medication and has joined a support group for emotional help. He continues to write in a journal. Joseph himself is almost killed in a car accident (on 11-8-11) but is miraculously spared. His watch is broken at 11:11.
Joseph gets a call from his brother in Barcelona. Dad only has a few more days to live. Joseph flies out on 11/9/11. He gets constant warnings of impending doom from creepy old people. His brother Samuel (Michael Landes) is confined to a wheel chair. Joseph has lost his faith, something that is reflected in his character. In Spain there are weird things going on. The house has cameras installed. The elderly housekeeper thinks it is demons. Joseph has noticed the coincidence of the number 11:11 appearing in his life and tragedy striking...and we are now headed toward 11/11/11!!!!
Gibbs and Landes subject us to a constant barrage of boring monotone dialogue early in the film. Later Joseph, the skeptic, becomes excited. The special effects are low budget, but worked. I enjoyed the twist at the end. It set up for a sequel. I am dying to compare this to other films, but making any comparison would spoil it for the viewer.
Infrequent F-bomb, no sex or nudity.
awful
Just saw the movie and regret the time I had spent to see it. It seems as if the movie is cut short in many ways. There is no decent character development nor pace of the storytelling. In some movies it isn't required because it's portrayed well and interesting. Thisone surely isn't. Being a horror movie freak I could point out every and any scene that could have been made more interesting, as if the movie is made by someone who didn't care what he was doing. Such a shame. There are so many decent B movies in the horror genre that had a even smaller budget, but turned out great, entertaining and enough creepy at times. This movie missed the train on all those points. Too bad for words. I hope the film industry comes with better stuff, not puppets spreading their wings and that's supposed to be scary. Don't waste your time on this one peeps. Not worth your time at all.
