A mellow, idyllic and quiet feel-good movie about a school in a secluded coastal village. There are no mobile phones and gaming consoles. The children are still playing outside, there is still a community and healthy family life. If you're looking for relaxation and a dose of wholesomeness with a little bit of romance on top, look no further. I enjoyed it.
Plot summary
Set against the backdrop of Japan's scenic countryside, director Nobuhiro Yamashita's tale of adolescent love avoids the tear-jerking and virulent social commentary of many first-love stories in telling the tale of a rural schoolgirl smitten by a handsome new arrival from Tokyo. Soyo Migita (Kaho) is one of six students in her combined primary and junior school. A senior pupil who is currently in her second year of junior high, Soyo is the tallest girl in school and views her fellow students as an extended family. When Soyo's place at the top her class is challenged by the arrival of former city boy Hriomi Osawa (Masaki Okada),the starry eyed schoolgirl finds the butterflies in her stomach making her clumsy and vulnerable. There's no ignoring that strange new feeling beginning to grow in Soyo's heart, and as the call of first love and the onset of maturity becomes too powerful to resist, just the thought of holding hands with the likable new arrival is enough to make her blush. Based on Fusako Kuramochi's popular manga Tennen Kokekko, A Gentle Breeze in the Village was penned by screenwriter Aya Watanabe.

A nice escape from the modern world
Beautiful film
I've grown to really love Japanese movies like this. They don't take you on some anxiety inducing, harrowing journey. It's more like a couple of hours of soul nourishing meditation.
A wonderful movie which would appeal not only to Japanese audience but others too!
This is a classic movie about 7 or 8 students in a small Japanese village. It especially would be an interesting movie to people living in big cities. It shows the life of school children in a small village. The closeness of people and their affection to each other are nicely shown. I would have given 10/10 but the story could have used more affection between the two main characters in the movie. A must see for the people who grew up in cities like me. Very interesting movie overall. The website guys wouldn't let me post unless I write at least 10 lines. This is plain idiotic. It will be 10 lines in the next sentence. Now it is 10 lines as they required!
