A research team who are looking for a rare magical plant in the Himalayas run afoul of a lethal predatory yeti (Timothy Schultz in a funky suit).
Director Samaal Burden keeps the enjoyably inane story zipping along at a snappy pace, makes nice use of the snowy sylvan landscape, delivers a handy helping of graphic gore, and stages the brutal murders with grisly go-for-it aplomb. Moreover, the acting from the competent no-name cast is generally acceptable while the tight 72 minute running time ensures that this flick never gets dull or overstays its welcome. A fun Grade-B creature feature.

Watch out for the yeti
We're being followed
Dr. Martin leaves a horrible tape recording in a remote location. An extraction team has been sent in, but they are late. Dr. Smith is looking to get the yeti plant with its curative properties. One guy wants to shoot the yeti, you would think they would work together, but they don't.
The soundtrack was a replaying of the same rift over and over again attempting to build tension. It just got annoying. Acting and dialogue were bad. We do see the yeti up close while many scenes were "White Fang" style where we just see the hand and Soupy Sales fighting him off. The attempt to make this a timeless isolated place didn't work.
Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
Other Abominables are available.
Not to be confused with the 2006 movie of the same name which also features a ferocious yeti (and is easily the superior of the two),this particular Abominable definitely lives up to its title -- a z-grade effort hampered by wooden acting, a weak script, uninspired direction, and a rubbishy monster (a man in a manky costume and a rubber mask).
The plot sees a group of people searching a mountainous region for a rare plant that possesses incredible curative properties. Unfortunately for them, the flower is protected by a savage yeti. Why is the yeti so unwilling to allow this miraculous plant to be taken? Search me... that's just one of the questions that arises from this shockingly bad movie...
How can you tell how old snow is by tasting it? What is 'old snow' anyway?
What are the characters talking about? Beacons, generators, triangulation signals, sonic pockets, anomalies: what a load of old cobblers.
Why have the scientists taped over the Apple logo on their laptop? Are they worried about copyright laws?
How does a massive snarling yeti sneak up on a person unseen? Is it a ninja yeti?
Will anyone be convinced by those awful After Effects muzzle flashes?
Is the yeti bulletproof?
Is shining a torch at the beast while shouting 'Hey!' really the most effective yeti deterrent? Does this trick work with other monsters?
Are the people supposed to be caught in some kind of time warp? Did I hear that correctly? If so, who came up with this garbage?
If the film is set in a godforsaken, virtually unreachable part of the world about to be cut off by a storm, where did the mountain ranger and rescue crew come from? Were they just passing by?
A few gory moments help to distract the viewer momentarily from the sheer awfulness of the script, acting and direction, the grisly highlight being a messy face-ripping, but there's not nearly enough splatter to compensate for the film's ineptitude. Watch the 2006 film instead (hell, even the 2019 Dreamworks film of the same name has got to be better than this)
