I've seen this film twice now--once not long after it came out and, again, last night--and each time it startled me in the way, I think, good horror should. The unexpected ferocity of the killer is what gets me.
On the plus side, good acting (for the most part),believe characterizations, an eerie setting, and a really interesting, at times beautiful soundtrack. On the down side, I want some back story and a longer film.
I know enough about folklore that I can come up with my own definition of what a "tattie-bogle" is, but there's something missing. Why is this happening? What is causing this? Not knowing does provide the imagination the opportunity to fill in the blanks, but I would have liked more.

Love it, just wish it was longer...

This was pretty great. We got right to the killing part of the story. Stupid characters did their stupid stuff and got exactly what they should have got. Cut out all the extra BS that most movies have. Just get to the killing and the running and the screaming. And the end...just about perfect!!! 7/10
WTF is a "Tattie-Bogle"?
Okay, somebody managed to scrape up a few thousand dollars, found a camera, hot some friends and/or actors, and said, "Hey! Let's make a movie!"
Truth be told, not everything about this movie is horrible. For the most part, the acting is pretty bad, but the kill scenes, where the masked maniac attacks a group of people in a cabin with an axe are surprisingly good. There isn't a ton of gore, as there usually is with low-budget splatter-fests, but the man swinging the axe does so with conviction, and the victims' reactions are pretty much what they should be.
Some of the characters are actually fairly believable, and likeable, while others... well... not so much. Unlike Jason Voorhies or Michael Myers, the "Tattie-Bogle" isn't some indestructible, superhuman demi-demon. He isn't inordinately strong, or impervious to harm; he's a nutbag with an axe.
This is an uneven movie, at best. Some moments are intentionally comical, while others aren't. The same holds true for the characters and the actors portraying them. Some are decent, and some are cardboard cut-outs with lines. I've seen worse offerings from movies with bigger budgets and more accomplished casts, not many mind you, but a few.
