Average

"Beast" for the most part is "Cujo." But with a CGI lion in place of that creepy St Bernard dog. Still, the movie looked good. Especially with Idris Elba at the helm.

The effects are really the best part of the movie. CGI can go either way, but the lions do look really good. Probably helped by alot of the movie taking place at night. Which always improves the seemlessnese of CGI.

The story however is pretty straight forward, and what really let's the movie down is the characters. Like alot of these survival movies, alot of what the characters do in thier dangerous situation is just pure stupid. Making alot of noise when there's a killer lion around, going off by yourself when it's out there looking for you, and walking through waste high water when there are lions and crocodiles and everything everywhere are the best examples.

Idris Elba carries this so incredibly hard

SCORE: 4.6/10

Like Jurassic Park, but with lions and so much worse. It pretty much took the same formula with an animal chase, very well done camera work, and annoying kids. However, in this movie, the kids were almost unbearable. But, it was not the actors' fault. They did the best they could do with the script that was written. It just felt like idea after idea that was not fleshed out and left the story feeling incomplete. This movie shines in the moments of high intensity, but there wasn't enough ground work done for me to emotionally care at all. If you take any other no name actor and replace Idris Elba with them, this movie becomes extremely forgettable. Idris Elba carried this film so hard and proved once again how much talent he has and how special he truly is. Then again, the whole reason I went was because I knew Idris Elba was going to be in it, so A+ to the Marketing Department for this one.

Forced family drama with decent cgi

Nothing new here. Poor plot.

Terrible and entirely unnecessary forced family drama. Which leads in to terrible dialogs and even worse nonsensical decisions made by the children.

Some of which lead to a grown man punching and kicking a massive lion.... If you can kick and punch a lion, you're within it's grasp, and those claws and teeth are no joke.

Getting slashed or bitten to the bone numerous times.... I dare say you won't exactly be very mobile, regardless of how determined you are or how full of adrenaline.

The ONLY smart thing in the entire movie was the younger daughter stabbing the lion when it somehow couldn't reach dad under the suv.

His fight with the lion at the end was beyond stupid, 2 bites at most and he would've been done for, but nope, not our hero. At least 7 or 8 massive bites from a set of jaws that average around 650 PSI bite force. Us lowly humans don't manage a 5th of that.
