Released as Lola and Beyond Erotica here in the U. S., this Spanish shocker features David Hemmings - yes, the same actor from Deep Red - as a depressive rich boy who likes to dress women as bunnies and chase them from horseback with a pack of wild dogs. And that's already gone wrong once, but the poor people in the village can't do anything about it and our protagonist - antagonist? - keeps acting more and more like his father who treated these people like dirt.

His mother - played by Alida Vall, seriously this movie does not skimp when it comes to casting - keeps trying to find him another girl, but he only wants Lola (Andrea Rau, Daughters of Darkness),the most beautiful woman in town. She wants nothing to do with his games, so of course he thinks that imprisoning her will make her fall for him, because, well - men, right?

This is the first José María Forqué movie I've seen, but definitely not the final one. A rough yet strange film, this made me think that Hemmings is perhaps just a little too good in this role.

It fact its so poorly made you may not even see the similarities to The Most Dangerous Game.

Movie starts with one poor girl being chased thru the woods by a psycho with dogs and guns, she gets nabbed by a bear trap, the dogs kill her, she screams horribly for a while, its gross and sad.

Then he goes back home, sexually and physically harasses his housemaid for a while, and eventually sends her into the woods for a very lame chase, she survives, he kinda stops caring about her, the end.

This could have been done so much better as a horror or suspense film if the crew knew what they were doing, but its mostly just a weird mess and none of it is good. Its not even decent softcore porn because of the very brief nudity. It does have a few nice shots of South America so if scenery porn is your thing and you mute the sound, you may get a little entertainment out of this.

It only appeals to serious fans of 70's exploitation films who's already seen everything from North America and Europe.

The other review here pretty much expresses most my feelings. I'd like to add that the film serves as a wonderful showcase for Andrea Rau. Rau was a model turned softcore actress in Germany who got a big break in DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS. This film, which I saw on VHS as BEYOND EROTICA, was made a few years later and even the lousy full screen cropped video quality cannot dim the love the camera has for this woman. She's very good here and the other lead actors are fun to watch. Hemmings and Valli are slumming here but seem fully committed to their roles ( a sick mother - son cliché relationship ). The details of Hemming's character's obsessions are nicely drawn though, even if their motivation lacks imagination. There is a lot for exploitation fans to enjoy here, not much violence but plenty of human hunting, sickness and depravity to spare, copious nudity and yes, bunny outfits. Director Forque also made the worth a look giallo's IN THE EYE OF THE HURRICANE and TAROT. The film is poorly served by the current VHS versions. This film really should be out on DVD, hopefully soon.
