I had no idea what I was getting myself into here when I sat down in 2022 to watch the 2018 South Korean comedy "Bibapbarurra" (aka "Be-Bop A-Lula"). All I knew was that it was a South Korean comedy that I hadn't already seen, and that was essentially all that was needed to make me watch it.
And now that I have seen it, I must admit that writer and director Seong-Jae Lee definitely managed to put together a storyline and script that not only was entertaining and enjoyable, but also was heartfelt and beautiful. There was just something serene and warming about the storyline told in "Bibapbarurra", and writer Seong-Jae Lee definitely deserves a huge thumbs up on that achievement.
"Bibapbarurra" turned out to be a much more enjoyable movie than I had initially thought it to be, as I was expecting it to be a pure comedy. But no, "Bibapbarurra" was much more than just a comedy, as the storyline also explores friendships, family ties, coping with death, making up for lost time and such. So there really was a lot more to "Bibapbarurra" than mere comedy.
They had a great cast ensemble for the movie. Granted, I wasn't familiar with the most of the actors and actresses here, but they definitely put on good and believable performances.
If you enjoy a heartfelt and feel-good comedy, then you should certainly give "Bibapbarurra" a chance, should you find yourself able to watch it. I was genuinely entertained by this beautiful movie.
My rating of "Bibapbarurra" lands on a six out of ten stars.
