Although I had never heard of humorist Dave Barry before I saw this movie, I had a great time watching 'Big Trouble'.

Director Barry Sonnenfeld ('Men in Black', 'Get Shorty') does a great job of juggling the huge ensemble cast, and everyone (including Tim Allen) are all wonderfully funny and, it must be said, a little bit nuts. I particularly liked Dennis Farina as a hit-man who despises Miami (where the story takes place) and Zooey Deschanel as a deadpan teenager.

'Big Trouble' is outrageous fun for all, and this is a great comic ride.

Eliot Arnold (Tim Allen) is divorced from his cheating wife, fired from his Miami Herald job and opened a struggling advertising firm. His son Matt (Ben Foster) hates him. Henry Desalvo (Dennis Farina) and Leonard Ferroni (Jack Kehler) are hit men in town to kill Arthur Herk (Stanley Tucci). Puggy (Jason Lee) is a drifter who decided to come to Miami for the Cuban food. He gets in trouble with two idiot ex-cons buddies Snake Dupree (Tom Sizemore) and Eddie Leadbetter (Johnny Knoxville). Puggy is living in a tree and witnesses Matt and his friend Andrew (DJ Qualls) sneak in to spray Jenny Herk (Zooey Deschanel) as part of a game at school. Arthur is an embezzler and makes passes at the housekeeper Nina (Sofía Vergara) behind his wife Anna Herk (Rene Russo)'s back. The hit men fire a shot and miss. Police Officers Monica Romero (Janeane Garofalo) and Walter Kramitz (Patrick Warburton) investigate. There's also a suitcase with big boom.

It's a screwball comedy with limited comedy. There are a couple of cute moments that are chuckle worthy. The movie tries to replace comedy writing with a lot of quirky characters doing weird things in an interconnected crazy plot. They also set off a nuke smuggled onto a plane. That was never going to work post 9/11. It's questionable whether it would have work pre 9/11. The movie keeps moving from one character to another which keeps the audience from developing interest in any of the characters.

In Miami, the former columnist and presently owner of an advertisement agency Eliot Arnold (Tim Allen) is divorced and trying to get some respect from his teenager son, Matt (Ben Foster). Matt is participating of a squirt contest in his high school, and his aim is Jenny Herk (Zooey Dechanel),the daughter of the housewife Anna Herk (Rene Russo),who is married with the crook Arthur Herk (Stanley Tucci). Their marriage is almost finished, and Arthur swindled money from his job. The owners of the company hired two hit-men, Henry Desalvo (Dennis Farina) and his partner Leonard Ferroni (Kack Kehler),to kill him. Snake Dupree (Tom Sizemore) and his partner Eddie Leadbetter (Johnny Knoxville) are two stupid small time thieves. The drifter Puggy (Jason Lee) lives on the top of a tree in the garden of the Herk's. The Herk's maiden Nina (Sofia Vergara) and Puggy fall in love for each other. Officers Monica Romero (Janeane Garofalo) and her partner Walter Kramitz (Patrick Warburton) from Miami PD are called due to a confusion in Herk's home, and FBI agents Pat Greer (Dwight 'Heavy D' Myers) and Alan Seitz (Omar Epps) are looking for a nuclear bomb. Having all of these lead characters, and a screenplay that recalls "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", "Snatch" and "Pulp Fiction", "Big Trouble" is a very funny full-of-action comedy. I laughed a lot with the hilarious situations. My vote is seven.
