WOW. This movie is incredible! I am not quite sure where to start, but let me say this film really transcends 'indie filmmaking' and feels like a huge Hollywood movie and that has to be because of the cast and size (in feeling) of this story. I also did not know much about High School basketball, but I was blown away by the performances, found the underlying message of overcoming adversity through perseverance to be a universal one, and really was charmed by this gem of a film. Highly Recommend!

Basketball is a metaphor for life.
Great Story, Great Messaging
What's not to love about Janaya Black's Warrior Pride?
This is a legitimately great film that leverages basketball to contact all the touchstones the heart requires in its need to be inspired. Here we have a real-life story which plays out theatrically at full blast, and is captured seamlessly by solid camera play. The acting similarly hits on all cylinders. And above all else, there's a composited uplifting message about the human journey that in this case is rooted in teamwork, family, a mutually realized direction, and a sense of higher purpose.
Although there are potential takeaways for any individual in Warrior Pride, it's hard to imagine this one isn't best consumed as a shared family viewing experience: The baked-in discussion points that naturally arise from its inspirational storytelling are those that historically allow families to then have those truly necessary team-building conversations. Because even if we already profess to know it, it's a film like this which can remind us that life's trials are always imminent and ongoing - and inevitably sometimes brutal - but not without the possibility of true growth and the realization of a larger purpose.
What a good film!
I was wondering to myself before I watched this film... why such a high rating? Was it legit. Well, it is! I walked into this being a sucker for a sports story film but... this is much, much bigger than that. Actually what I said would be a little insulting because I got so wrapped up in everything the basketball part sort of melted away. The characters are richly developed and you really feel their desire, their passions, frustrations etc. I loved the Coach!! I went back and checked and for many in this film it appeared this was their first acting job. After finding this out, I was even more impressed. The director did such a great job in telling the story. You watch this film, you'll be in for a rich treat.
