Documentary about Borley Rectory, England's most "haunted" house. Mixing real actors and animation, all in black and white, is quite effective and I am a big fan of Reece Shearsmith but after a while it started getting boring and overall adds nothing to the complete lack of evidence that ghosts exist.

A 180-page report published by the Society for Psychical Research in 1955 concluded that there were no related events at Borley Rectory, "the Mount Everest of haunted houses" that could not have had rational explanations.

No matter. Film historian Jonathan Rigby brings an incisive presence as ghost hunter Harry Price - who wrote two books on "the most haunted house in England" - in this loving amalgam of 'Haxan', 'The Haunting', 'The Antennae' and the films of Guy Maddin that provides yet more proof that screen ghost stories work best in black & white.

This is the stuff of horror legend, this story... This famous English vicarage that was reputedly the scene of some gruesome tales, and of the subsequent hauntings and investigations by the renowned Harry Price. In theory the use of animation might have helped to get round the obvious lack of actual evidence, but somehow it just lacks that certain "Tim Burton" factor - the CGI is a bit too cheap, the narrative a bit too "Discovery Channel" and though the story itself is undoubtedly fascinating, this documentary-style presentation doesn't really convey too much of the menace. There is also quite a bit written on the screen from time to time that strains the eye, but also harasses the pace. It could easily be completely made up, and therein lies it's biggest flaw - it just lacks any sense of authenticity or of creepiness.
