Yeah I hope this isn't too based on a true story because Brittany sucks. I get she has demons and pain and I feel for her but good God she deals with her problems like a five year old. This entire movie she made me angry. What's the intentions here? She's actually a bad person. I Could deal with it until about the hour fifteen mark, where the film kinda goes off the rails and becomes unrealistic and Brittany becomes fully unredeemable. It's disappointing, I wish the second act was written better. The first act is great. There's a good story here, there's some vulnerable honesty, but there's also major flaws. I like the protagonist being a fleshed out real character, but also a real person that's not a complete insecure clueless narcissist who just hurts everyone but were just supposed to fully emphasize with. That's really all she is man.

Plot summary
Hilarious, outgoing and always up for a good time, New Yorker Brittany Forgleris everybody's best friend -- except maybe her own. At 27, her hard-partying ways, chronic underemployment and toxic relationships are catching up with her, but when she stops by a new doctor's office to try to score some Adderall, she gets slapped with a prescription she never wanted: Get healthy. Too broke for a gym and too proud to ask for help, Brit is at a loss, until her seemingly together neighbor Catherine pushes her to lace up her Converse sneakers and run one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. And soon, after finishing her first mile, she sets an almost unthinkable goal: running in the New York City Marathon.

Brittany is a piece of crap.
I cried which is so rare - Such a heartwarming film!
Inspirational wonderful experience, I love Jillian Bell; I have since I saw her in Curb your Enthusiasm! This was a great mix of comedy/tearjerker, lovely story about a overweight woman that wants to improve her life that deals with a lot in between which was so entertaining to me. This is among the best independent films I have seen in a very long time plus it's great to cry.
liked the journey
28 year old Brittany Forglar (Jillian Bell) is overweight and stuck in her life. She is funny but irresponsible. Her doctor tells her to lose weight and she starts running. Her thin best friend roommate Gretchen constantly sabotages her. Her neighbor Catherine (Michaela Watkins) tries to mentor her but gets rejected. Finally, she befriends fellow struggling runner Glenn, a gay married parent who is looked down upon by his kids. Catherine pushes her way into their group as they strive to run in the New York City Marathon. She is actually struggling with her difficult divorce. Brittany gets a job house and dog sitting. She is joined by fellow slacker Jern (Utkarsh Ambudkar). As she starts to get in shape, she finds that her problems are more than physical.
Jillian Bell is meaner in this one than I expected. Normally, she is a fun, light actress. Her character has a mean streak which is attributed to her self-destructive personal image. It leads to a depth in the personal drama which is more than I expected. This does have plenty of great light humor but every once in awhile, this movie gets dark. Her confrontations with Gretchen and Jasmine really surprised me. Her romance also surprised me a little but a happy one. Jillian Bell doesn't have a mean bone so some of this doesn't feel like it fits. On a minor note, I don't think missing the subway is a good bit. I understand what it's trying to do. Somebody probably has a personal story but it's not that compelling. I actually prefer doing a scene which Brittany herself relays to Jern. As a fat woman, men sometimes treat her as one of the guys in their crude sexual talk. That is an often done scene but it's always a good scene to include especially when contrasted to her co-worker's boyfriend. The movie could also include a short montage of Brittany testifying for Catherine in her court case. Overall, I really like the premise, the movie, and what it's trying to do. I like Brittany's journey.
