Troy (Steve Zahn) is a troubled man. He and his child Joe (Sasha Knight) are riding a horse into the wilderness like two cowboys. Joe's mother Sally (Jillian Bell) is besides herself. She calls the police. Her child is missing. Local cop Faith (Ann Dowd) leads the search.
Steve Zahn is such an endearing actor. He really shows the heart of this character. Everybody is doing good here. Non of the main characters are villains. It's a matter of love, understanding, and tragic mistakes. The movie does seem to be building up to a tragic ending. I can see why filmmaker Anna Kerrigan pulls back and refuses to go down that road. I'm not saying that it's wrong. It's just a bit of a down gear shift.

Gimme a break......
Stupid movie and waste of time. Save 2 hours of your life and watch something better the Andy Griffin Show.
Body-dysmorphia Comes to Nebraska
Cowboys
This movie was on the pulse of current trends and played on the anxieties and sensibilities of the metropolitan bourgeoisie. The rest of us less woke-sophisticates will consider these matters, if and when we have to face them, sometime in an alternative reality in a parallel universe.
Body dysmorphic child born to country middle America, all from the parents perspective. Overall the movie approached the issues in both a simplistic and shallow manner with the "journey" needing to go further, the movie just ended abruptly with some members of the community apparently accepting the pragmatic reality.
The acting was strong in places but overall largely pedestrian. Also some terrible plot blunders, if the child wants to be male, and the parents accepts this reality and facilitates change, then a good crew cut (short back and sides) might have effected a decent transition, the mother offers the child a Barbie doll, an oversimplification of the issues methinks!
Overall I liked the movie, however the need to insert a multiplicity of other issues, like in and out of prison, mental health and a marriage breakdown was a major distraction and really quite unnecessary.
I think this is a weak 6 out of 10, it's a new genre so I hesitate to be overly harsh, meaning watch it and enjoy if for what it is.
