Its a rare try to make an 80'ish flick in 2019. its a very hard genre to bust the block with, and its all on the average level. it is a story about a handsome guy and his petty crime grand theft car stereo stealingfriend s, and their life and despair in the love of cars and girls.
its also a love story, as the young man is a road racer and a womanizer of great talents, its also lots of party, music, barriers, drugs, carstealing, mobsters and close family relations. you will rather quikly sense the 80's in style and wear, and the most modern gadget seen in the flick is a digital emergency caller that beeps the number you should connect too(forgotten its name)
what lifts this film up to another level is the great filmography, the way of the lightsettings, sets and decorations giving it a smooth touch of warmth, that makes you want to continue and explore what happens. it ha s a real boost on action from ca 70 mins in the movie, due to a stupid descision made by the main, so there are something to look forward to.
the cast does an average job on the set, mostly due to a sloppy story and script. they really try to live up to the bouncing a break dancing worming the asphalt in the rythm of the night.
its a bit sad to say that i was a kinda cool eighties kid to, not on the stealing issues, but enough to make an old grumpy man become a bit touched and therefore recommends it a little.

Plot summary
Whiling the time away racing cars and hanging out daily with his friends, the working-class Italian-American underachiever and suave greaser, Gio Fortunato, is the undisputed king of late-1980s Queens' bustling Franny Lew boulevard. Always on the hunt for beautiful ladies, Gio loves to cruise past the avenue's regular joints in his black turbocharged Buick GNX, when, out of the blue, he spots an unknown sensual brunette who calls herself Francesca. And, just like that, a whirlwind summer romance starts to bloom, against the backdrop of catchy 80s freestyle music, youthful excitement, and an onslaught of contrasting emotions. Now, Gio feels ready to embrace the change; however, is this mysteriously alluring girl his soulmate? Can there be a future between the nice Jewish girl and the handsome bad boy from the other side of the tracks?

barely a fortunato ride back to the 80's
This was definitely my favorite of his films!
And I love the Wrestler and Big Fan and I just watched the McDonalds one and was blown away at how complex and comprehensive the thing is but this , this is is def one hell of a seriously fun passion project, its small and intimate and really nice! I loved every second of it and the best part was how he dissolved the threads to get to the end which blew me away. I really loved every second of it! He is such an awesome writer and now with directing it feels even better I just hope we see way more ol' boy cause his definitely talented! I love it! Just so artsy and fun , he works well through the characters with style to bring everything together! Great job!
Just a couple of cute wholesome kids falling in love, stealing cars, snorting coke...
...spewing F bombs in every sentence and being imbeciles. The premise is worn out with the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, old school Italian working class family and the Ivy League Jewish girl going places in life. Of course she gets mixed up in his dirty business and it all goes south but if you ask me they were both trash to begin with. It is hard to watch and listen to a film without even one interesting or original line.
This is just another attempt by Hollywood to convince everyone the culture is nothing but lowlifes who spew refuse, do hard drugs and commit felonies. I did not even know people like this growing up.
