Love is Precious and Vicious

Early in "Deadly Double Cross" (a.k.a., "Precious Things"),a mother comforts her brokenhearted daughter by telling her that love is both precious and vicious. The film weighs those two factors in a grim episode of a police blotter.

Kelly Davies and Amber Mitchell both fell for the same man, a smooth-talking charmer named Alex Cosgrove. Driving a Corvette and laying on thick the romantic facade, Alex julggles relationships with multiple women.

Eventually, one of his jilted paramours retaliates, and Alex dies after being knocked down the stairs at the local reservoir. When young Amber Mitchell is arrested for murder, her mom Lisa moves into action as a private eye. She even mounts a storyboard on her wall at home as she sifts through the evidence.

The filmmakers kept the action flowing, especially in two gargantuan cat fights. One is between the two besties, Amber and Kelly. And the other is between their two mothers, Lisa and Heather. Like mother, like daughter.

The only evidence that Lisa has is that Alex was a "player." She has to find the "other woman" who was responsible for Alex's tumble down the stairs. There was quite a good climactic scene where the dramatic revelation occurred. The final takeaway was that the vicious side of love trumped everything that was precious in the lives and loves of four women.

Too easy to figure out early in the movie

Too predictable - I had the secret figured out about 25 minutes in - that Kelly's mom had an affair with Alex and killed him for choosing her daughter over her. It was so obvious that I thought I had to be mistaken and it would end up being someone else that killed him, but it turned out I was right.

I was pleased to see that neither of the two main characters - the moms, and their daughters Kelly and Amber - lived in huge fancy mansions like the leading ladies do in most other LMN movies. Their houses were still bigger and fancier than run of the mill middle class homes, but they were more believable than the ritzy mansions that Lifetime usually has their heroines residing in.

Lastly, I really don't like the fact that Lifetime shamelessly changed the year this movie first came out from 2017 to 2020 and called it the "premiere" to promote it as a brand new movie. Very dishonest and tacky, and this is only one of many they've done that with to delude people into thinking they're new movies to get them to watch them.

Correction to texxas-1's review

I don't know what movie t-1 is confusing this with, but I can confirm that this was shot in 2017.
