Let's take a camera, four actors with below-average talent, and various scenes for them to improve, mix them all together, and you get an hour and forty minute pot of boring Prattleporn soup.
If I could give it less than one star, I would.
Filled with dream sequences and flash-forward moments, the film takes us on a trip to a cabin (it looks more like a house) with four young hipsters. The hipsters are one guy who seems to be a professional friend and who has a crush on one of the girls, a girl who is having relationship problems with her boyfriend (she's the one that the guy has a crush on....wow),another girl who friendly, wild, likes weed, and can drink with the guys, and another girl who is rational. Obviously, as one can tell, the writer of the screenplay simply took a slab of cardboard and cut out the characters.
Of course, on their way up to the cabin, they prattle on about stuff that you wouldn't find interesting or care anything about. When the four young hipsters (1 guy and 3 girl) get to the cabin, the film tries to convey that the townsfolk aren't too friendly, and may even be a little weird. Notice how I said "tries to convey". The film fails to make you think that there is anything weird going on.
And so, once the four hipsters are at the cabin, the weed and booze begin, and with that, more prattling. Stories of the townfolk, the guy who likes the girl, prattle, prattle, prattle. When they all wake up the next morning, they decide to prattle more. The rational girl takes a stroll in the woods and discovers a foot sticking out of an abandoned car. Frightened, she runs back to the cabin and....decides to go out to dinner with her friends. Huh?
Let it be known that by the time the four hipsters head out to dinner, we are well into an hour of the film.
At dinner (yes, the waitress acts a little strange) the hipsters meet up with three guys (who seem a little weird). The guys invite the hipsters to a party, offering to drive them in their truck. So off they go.
Now in all fairness to the film, the director does convey an uncomfortable atmosphere during the "party", with the little bit of tension driving up to the party and the stares from the other guests of the party. Anyone who has lived through their late teens and early twenties knows of the uncomfortable, out-of-place feeling one gets being at a stranger's house surrounded by a bunch of strangers booze and drugs. That feeling is delivered during the film's "party" scene. When watching the scene, you are waiting for the rape of one of the hipsters to start happening, or the hipsters to start disappearing one by one, or all the guests turning on the hipsters. And you wait. And wait.
And then the hipsters are driven back to their cabin. That's the payout. One hour and twenty minutes have gone by, with pretty much nothing more than four hipsters prattling about nothing, and when you think that you are going to finally see the horror of the film, you are given more prattling. It is probably the biggest letdown of a film that is already plagued with complete boredom.
The last fifteen minutes of the film is when the actual bloodletting begins to happen. I won't get into the final moments, but take my word for it, you will see nothing different. You might get a chuckle from watching the fight scenes, which are more like "let's hug each other and pretend we're fighting" scenes, but that's about it. Other than that, you will see nothing different. You will still be bored. You will still be wondering when the movie will finally end. You will still be disappointed in yourself for watching this garbage.
"Death Trip" is one of those films that if you make yourself sit through it, you actually get angry at yourself for doing so.
"Death Trip" is a complete waste of time.

Prattleporn that makes you regret you even started watching the film in the first place
anticipation leads to nothing but disappointment.
This is bad. as pointed out by other reviewers, they fill up the time with chit chats and stuff. which i dont really mind at first, provided if there's really good stuff in the end, like blair witch or paranormal activity. instead, in the end we get michone and the boy doin a wrestling match, stand around and wait for the other to attack them and switch turns. now thats some wasted time i cant get back.
Has a few interesting elements but not a lot of genre elements
Wanting to get away for the weekend, a group of friends decides to have a special get-together at a remote cottage in the wilderness, but when they discover that someone has been brutally murdered they realize they're being hunted by someone around them and must try to get away alive.
There were some rather troubling factors here alongside its positives. The main drawback is the wholly unnecessary overlong running time that goes on way too long for this kind of film. The early setup involving the lives of the group coming together and arriving at the house manages to be incredibly bland offering up nothing all that interesting as the group does nothing but play banal party games, drink or smoke while arguing over their past boyfriends or debate the merits of the story involving the neighbors' who may or may not have killed his wife. None of this is interesting or thrilling, and when carried on for as long as it is in the running time here it really holds the horror elements back to a point that it's entirely possible to forget this was supposed to be a genre effort in the first place. This is certainly not helped along by the second half where it really shows off how bland and uninteresting the characters are. Focusing on the try-hard political correctness of their intentions instead of having fun or the utterly unnecessary stopover at a party hosted by a local stranger manages to highlight this factor even more with the dull and dreary work of everyone involved making it insanely difficult to care about anything and anyone involved. Taking on the additional disadvantage of being so bland is that these also contribute to the film's overlong running time as not only do we grow to not care about anyone but it just makes the film a chore to get through before getting to anything remotely considered genre entertainment. While it does have some problems later on, among the few things it does right is the actual switchover into the darker scenes when the dying body of their friend is found. It's a genuinely terrifying scene with the confusion and general disorder of the scene where they discover the remains and try to make sense of everything happening, yet even that loses its power and meaning when the motivation for everything comes out rendering everything into a wholly unimpressive and lackluster scorned romance angle that doesn't justify anything that's come before or makes sense as to what the events leading up to that revelation. For the most part, these are what hold this one down.
