Did i miss Something

Sure the Ed Gein like mask the kid wears is one of the creepiest things I have seen in a while, and ok the dolls made my skin crawl. But overall the acting and scenes that make no sense ruin the film for me. To me this was a 45min short dragged out to almost 90min. Several scenes seem to be added just to be creepy with no real connection to the plot. And while some reviewers have likened this to a John Waters Film, the only resemblance top a Waters film would be the low budget nature of the production as in Films like Pink Flamingos. I am sure Waters would have chosen a better musical score as well. The only mment that the music works is when they lift the first 20 or so notes from the Carousel Waltz, which does work to give you the creeps. I am not totally bashing this film, however it is not the extraordinary movie that some are claiming. For the most part I am glad I saw it, but it also made me angry that it could have been so much better.

Just downright terrible...

Well, truth be told, then I wasn't really harboring much of any expectations to the 2016 movie "Dolly Deadly" from writers Heidi Moor and Cassandra Sechler. Why? Well, I had never heard about the movie, and its cover and its synopsis wasn't really particularly impressive. But I do believe in giving a movie a fair chance, so of course I opted to watch "Dolly Deadly".

Well, a whole staggering 25 minutes of the 85 minutes running time. This movie was just atrociously bad. It felt like it was written by a preschooler for a show and tell project. The storyline was just downright bland and mediocre, but the acting is what killed off the movie for me. Justin Moore (playing Benji) actually put on the most impressive performance in this movie, and we are talking about a child actor outclassing all the adults here.

Visually then I will say that "Dolly Deadly" was somewhat of an acquired taste. This is not your average mainstream movie, so that at least counted for something. But the movie was just never off to a flying start, given the lousy writing and the terrible acting.

The whole movie just oozed with an amateurish feel, and it is not something I enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie. I am sure that those involved were having a blast making "Dolly Deadly", but I sat down to be entertained, which didn't happen here.

My rating of "Dolly Deadly" lands on a one out of ten stars.

Beyond rock bottom

Benji's (Justin Moore, director's son?) mom (Dana Nelson) dies at a very young age in a hair dying accident. He is raised by his grandmother (Kimberly West-Carroll) and her lazy boyfriend Donald (Jay Sosnicki) in the trailer park. Benji lives in an imaginary world where he dances and performs for his dolls. Needless to say, he is the victim of bullying. He is told by a man with an aluminum yamaka that "revenge is sweet" and at about an hour into the story, things start to finally happen.

The main problem with the film, other than being bad, is that it took too long for the action to happen. It should have started about 30 minutes into the film. They should have been able to build character in that amount of time, start with the action, or lose your audience. The film, to be kind, is a concept film, of what I am not sure. The bad filming and acting were apparently by design, because the production doesn't waiver from it.

The credits at the end had some writing in it, but not as clever as say, "The Holy Grail." It appears to be some lines from the film and inside cast jokes, things rank amateurs would do. "Her peculiarities must not be punished." Guide: F-word. Nudity (Dana Nelson). No sex. Cult film, not for everyone.
