Story: Basically same as many other fantasy movies, nothing new... Character development: is present for some of the characters, but some people that they portray to be important never really get resolved and just disappear..its confusing CGI et etc: its good for chinese production
Overall: it started well and was interesting about halfway in until the story started to get confusing when things happening without proper explanation..its ok entertainment but definately not 10/10 like many reviews here say, they must have very low standards

wait it gets so many 10/10, hold my beer...
Quite entertaining Chinese film
Some things are always lost in translation, but as it is, Double World is a pretty good film. It features fancy sword play, wire fu, loyalty to royalty and, of course, backstabbing and even some mythical creatures. I liked the acting and, even if some scenes were totally over the top, the movie was entertaining and captivating. Do more of these, China!
Typical for a Chinese historical fantasy
DOUBLE WORLD is essentially the Chinese version of THE HUNGER GAMES, with a number of young warriors drawn into a tournament organised by the king. It's a typically humdrum and derivative kind of movie that goes through the motions every time, looking and feeling exactly the same as any other Chinese historical fantasy of the last decade or so. There's the requisite action and melodrama, plus encounters with CGI scorpions, shaggy-haired beasts and dragons, and I didn't care a jot about any of it. The only original moment is the arena-based action with the participants fighting on chains over a spike-filled pit and avoiding massive rolling balls of death, but even this is handled in a cheesy, unbelievable way.
