I came away from "Driven" with an appreciation for the production design and the effort put into it by the cast. High society and their sun-soaked mansions and party lifestyles. It's convincing. But these characters could've been anybody, that's the problem.

In order to dramatize the coke deal, you have to describe the man and the folly that led to it. But as often as the name DeLorean is uttered in this film, there's little seen of the DMC-12. It's almost literally an afterthought and gives no reason for this guy to go to the lengths he did to try to keep his dream alive. C'mon, some driving shots, showroom reveal, *something*.

I kept thinking this is Boogie Nights without the spark. There just something lifeless about it. That kinda stings; I wanted to like this.

This is a biopic about Jim Hoffman, a drug smuggler. who got caught and turned informant. When his neighbor John DeLorean (Lee Pace) needs to make some quick money, Jim (Jason Sudeikis) agrees to help him out.

This was a great script, told as a flashback from the witness stand. Jason Sudeikis plays the part almost like Matt Damon in "The Informant." He is slightly inept but is able to get the job done. Sort of.

Every time I hear that name, I personally think of the movie Back to the Future .. and not so much about the man who is being portrayed here. So I have mininmal (actually less than that) knowledge about the real life incidents described here. I have no idea where this stands in regards to that.

But the cast is doing an amazing job! The story may be lacking at some points, but the actors really make up for that and then some. At least in my estimation and for my liking. The German title was a bit confusing for me, but then again, I don't know what I would have expected from a movie called "Driven" either ...
