tired of shaky camera

Tuck, Munch and Alex are nerdy best friends but a roadway is being built through their Vegas suburb and their families have to move. Then they find their phones acting up. They figure out the image on their phone is a map and they find strange pieces of metal. As they collect each piece, they connect to form Echo. One of the locations turns out to be popular girl Emma's home. She insists on joining them as they continue collecting pieces. Also the road construction crews led by Dr. Lawrence Madsen (Jason Gray-Stanford) seem to be aware of something going on.

It starts as the Goonies with smart phones. They find a mechanical ET. The story is perfectly fine. The kids are OK but Tuck talks too much. The two other boys don't get enough attention. My big problem is the found footage style. The shaky hand held camera is too shaky. It needs to compensate with regular camera work especially in some of the action scenes. They could be done so much better. It could have been a good kids adventure.

THAT COULD HAVE GONE BETTER

This film is basically ET with a hand held camera. Some kids get a phone signal that they decipher as a map. Late at night they take their bicycles (with bike cam) and travel 20 miles into the desert to find an alien mechanical device that needs help, but can only communicate through beeps. They go on a scavenger hunt tailed by the US government. The device can control electronics and make metal move around at will, except anything the US government uses to capture and dissect it.

The film takes place in Nevada. They were able to demonstrate hand held film supposedly made by a thirteen year old is as bad as one made by a twenty something. The alien device was not exciting. Clearly a film made for targeted preteens/ early teens. Has a message on friendship.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs,sex, or nudity. PG swearing.

Kids movie

I get that people are annoyed by the found footage style. Same here with me. But this is a kids movie and comparing it with horror movies or implying they shouldn't use that technique is not the issue here. And that it does copy ET or Super 8 (whichever you have watched first yourself and liked rightly very much) is not helping anyone either ... least you as a viewer.

This is a kids movie and it does a good job putting together a band of young kids (who are doing a good job considering the fantasy element of the movie),on a journey that is adventurous. You'll either find the inner kid in yourself or you'll find this boring, that's a fact. But try not to blame the movie for that
