Genesis II was made for CBS, who turned it down in favor of the Planet of the Apes series, with the thinking that a network could have only one science fiction show on its schedule at a time.
Planet Earth was made for ABC, and it wasn't a sequel, rather, the next episode of the same premise, with a new male lead and a lighter tone.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture's script was written to be an episode of Genesis II. (and was in turn, stolen from an older episode of Star Trek! (Earth satellite comes back looking for its maker))
Andromeda uses two of the characters' names (Dylan Hunt and Harper Smythe)though it has little to do with the original concept. By using the names I suppose the producers could call it "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda") I really wish they would have made a Genesis II series instead,
IMHO: I liked that Mariette Hartley was set up to be a recurring, love-interest/villain for Dylan. It could have been a good show, though I have to agree with the poster who said it probably would have only lasted one season. Still, 26 episodes would have been great to have.

However the cavern collapses during an earthquake and Dylan doesn't recover until the year 2133. During the 154 years he had slept, war has broken out and the world's scientists rebelled against the war-loving military and developed a society known as the Pax, whose goal is to keep the spirit of mankind alive. However there are also the mutant Tyranians who plan to be Nazi-like rulers of the slowly recovering world. Dylan is tricked by the Tyranians who plan to use his knowledge of the past to rebuild their nuclear generator and therefore make their plans complete. Clearing up some misconceptions.
imagine what COULD have been
This TV pilot had an excellent premise. A man (Alex Cord) is placed in suspended animation for research purposes and the intention is to revive him shortly afterwards. However, an earthquake occurs and the base is buried. During this time, the man continues to slumber only to be awakened LONG after everyone he knew had died. In fact, his world as it was is dead as well, as nuclear wars have decimated the planet and created a variety of mutant races and civilizations. When Cord is revived, he is told that he is staying with an organization called "PAX"--a group of scientists and do-gooders whose goals are to promote knowledge and peace. However, his evil nurse (Mariette Hartley) tells him this is all a lie and convinces him to escape with her. He does and soon learns she is from a race of 2-belly buttoned freaks who LOVE inflicting pain and dehumanizing others. Talk about your BAD choices! Well, what happens next is really up to you to find out IF you can find this film (that's a big IF). That's because it was a Gene Roddenberry pilot for a TV series that wasn't accepted by the networks. In addition, the original story was reworked with John Saxon and involved the character infiltrating a group of rabid amazons. While lighter in spirit and more "Star Trek-like", the second attempt failed to arouse sufficient interest from the networks to merit a series. Too bad, as the idea was novel and the results quite watchable.
Not entirely successful sci-fi curio
This TV movie was written and produced by Gene Roddenberry as a pilot for a proposed series. It focuses on a scientist who is put in suspended animation and awakes 150 years later into a post-apocalyptic earth populated by warring tribes, including mutants. The fact is was never picked up for a TV series is not too surprising as the concept is too ambitious for its limited budget to successfully pull off. An interesting failure though.
