Acting was decent and the story is not bad,but the script was absolutely horrible so is directing of this movie. It's very boring. Not sure what else to add to this. There isn't much going on other than lots of pointless walking. It starts in nowhere, leads nowhere and ends nowhere. Could've been a great piece with some action, some dialogs that connected you to any of the characters. As people die, you just don't care. There's just 1 drama during the movie and it had nothing to do with the movie, which was another pointless thing in the script. Just quite a bit lack of common sense and that lack of common sense haunted the whole movie during a lot of the scenes that made little sense.
It easily could've been a 6 or 7 with just some thought put into it.
Plot summary
Amazon rainforest, 1538. King Carlos V de España y I de Alemania sends a group of Spanish soldiers to the new continent to locate Teziutlan, a legendary city created with gold, to claim it to the Spanish Empire. Alone in the rainforest and without a help, soldiers face not only indigenous tribes but the manifest hate themselves by their respective birth places. Leaded by old Don Gonzalo, married with young Doña Ana, his aging and weak health turns in danger Ana, who is disputed by Alférez Gorriamendi, Gonzalo's right-hand, and soldier Martín Dávila. After to realize that Viceroy of Port Prince has send another expedition looking for them leaded by Juan Medrano after to accuse Don Gonzalo of treason, Dávila, Gorriamendi and other soldiers as Sargento Bastaurrés and Barbate must decide if fight against Medrano's and his men or continue until Teziutlan. But the rivalry and hate between them will reveal more dangerous than the own rainforest and the indigenous tribes.

May be people who gave really low ratings wanted a typical Hollywood movie??
The movie keep me entertained all the time, the settings, environment, actors, costumes and story are all very high quality.
A really great realistic explorer & adventure movie, feels like you are there in the jungle with them.

Has potential, but lame
The story has a plot that could had worked better if from the start had been well researched. It's supposedly a historic/period film, and it's full of clichés and logical errors, not to say complete lack of historic accuracy. Indians speak Spanish like caricatures, men curse on God all the time, and the story too soon turns into a race between a band of greedy, immoral gold seekers and a band of similar men under the orders of the new Viceroy (who suddenly wants the all the gold for himself - and not for the King of Spain),to find the Golden City, aka, El Dorado.
This is a clumsy film written through an outdated and shameful colonial gaze. Despite some weak sparks here and there, the overall acting is pretty bad.
