Denial

This documentary was well done. It fairly depicted some of the hysteria around 9/11 and the ultimate resulting bigotry against Muslim Americans. With that being said, there is certainly no doubt in my mind, that many of these "home grown terrorists" were primed from an early age to have contempt for American foreign policy. In order to combat this line of thinking, it's critical to teach children how to spot propaganda coupled with an understanding of the historical events that led to America being the leader of the free world. What struck me most, was the family's denial of what their brother did, and more so when I read up on the case. The documentary left out some critical information. Namely, when Shifa went to Bangladesh, a terrorism task force discovered an encrypted CD the lining of his suitcase; a map of Washington, D. C., that covered all of the areas he and Ahmed had cased; and a scrap of paper with Aabid Hussein Khan's (a known jihadist) mobile phone number in Pakistan. That information is critical in rationalizing the rendition that untimely took place. In all honesty, I found Phillip Mudd, the FBI agent who was instrumental in Sadeqee's arrest, to be incredibly empathetic towards Shifa's family. On the one hand, we do not prosecute people for their thoughts in this country, but in this case, their were some very disturbing acts in furtherance of a conspiracy that made the prosecution necessary.

This is frustrating.

The family of the young man, who was eventually arrested in Bangledesh, are a perfect example of how manipulative and treacherous a terrorist can be. Not just a terrorist who is a Muslim but any individual who thinks that harming people and trying to justify it by using their faith to do so. The family of this guy should have been condemning the criminality and perversion of their own faith by one of their own. Instead they show pictures, and stories written, and examples of his innocence as a CHILD. He grew up to be a dangerous adult who didnt give a lick about what he was doing or intended to eventually do. Shame on all of them.

And that's the problem....!

If the family of the homegrown terrorist doesn't think their son/brother did anything wrong after seeing all the evidence against him.....then maybe they too are part of the problem!
