I wasn't really expecting much from "Itsy Bitsy" given the fact that a lot of movies with monstrous spiders in them tend to be quite questionable, either in special effects or just the overall plot.
However, I still sat down to watch the 2019 movie "Itsy Bitsy", despite of its somewhat cheesy title. After all, it is a creature feature and I do enjoy such horror movies. And luckily so, because "Itsy Bitsy" from writers Jason Alvino, Bryan Dick and Micah Gallo actually turned out to be rather enjoyable.
The storyline told here in "Itsy Bitsy" was a bit over simplified. I mean, an ancient urn is broken and a carnivorous spider is awoken in the process. Sure, it sounds like an interesting tale, but look at it realistically, then it was just actually a stupid storyline. But still, for a creature feature of this kind, you don't need realism - you need a solid creature and an entertaining movie.
Turns out that "Itsy Bitsy" actually had that and was that, so this was actually an entertaining and enjoyable movie.
And the spider in the movie was just phenomenal. It really looked realistic, and it was such a joy to watch it scuttle about in the movie and do its business. And for a creature feature, then having believable and realistic special effects and/or CGI is everything. They had that here, so thumbs up to the special effects team.
It was nice to see Bruce Davison in a movie such as this, and he really performed well in his role. I wasn't particularly familiar with Elizabeth Roberts, but she performed quite well also, and she had a very interesting character to work with in the movie. And if you are a true horror fan, then you will be pleased to see that Denise Crosby is also in the movie.
I can warmly recommend that you take the time to sit down and watch "Itsy Bitsy" if you enjoy creature features that have that old school classic feel to it in terms of horror movies. I am rating "Itsy Bitsy" seven out of ten stars.

Creepy crawlies...
Family melodrama plus an arachnid
ITSY BITSY is a low budget horror flick that mixes family melodrama with a traditional creature feature. The writing is just about good enough for this to be watchable, although it's nothing I'd go out of my way to catch. Bruce Davison plays the elderly patriarch of a mixed-up family, but the brunt of the acting goes to Elizabeth Roberts as the harrassed parent, and very good she is too. STAR TREK fans will enjoy Denise Crosby's small role as the sheriff. The film is rather static and slow for the first hour, but it picks up for a slimy, extended climax which has more than a nod to ARACHNOPHOBIA, albeit with a creepier, BABADOOK-style vibe.
Big Ugly Spider
A bigger than usual spider from somewhere else annoy a family without John Goodman to protect them. Kara (Elizabeth Roberts) is a nurse who is dealing with pain and the death of a son. She moves her two kids to where she can care for Walter Clark (Bruce Davison) a collector of ancient artifacts. He has the Black Egg of Maa-Kalaratri which contains a legendary spider that likes children etc.
Good spider jump scares. Denise Cosby in an awkward role.
Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
