Like an old horse running out of steam half way through the race.

I watched this because the trailer has that Twilight Samurai feel. And for the first half or so, it did. It was intriguing and the fight scenes were brilliant. Then after that it just dragged and was boring and slow. A whole samurai film turned into a nonsensical plot of the banking industry. Well, at least there is a romance in the story right? Wrong.

The ending was confusing and leaves you with a very dissatisfied feeling of being cheated after sitting through a full 2 hours.

1 star for each 10% that was good, about the first 40%.

Worth watching

If you like Twilight Samurai, then this movie would definitely suits you. Almost in the same period, with similar setting and a decent hero that we will love since the beginning, Inemuri Iwane is the movie that you all have been waiting for.

Swordplays are believable and intense but not too much bloodbath, so no need to worry about too much violence. Romance scenes are tender and touching, emotions are delivered by longing gaze rather than embraces and kisses. We will drawn into our hero's passion for his love one, not by passionate love but with sincere heart.

Hope for a sequel.

Definitely 8/10.

Solid Samurai movie.

Smaller spoilers, nothing that ruins the plot.

In short: If you like Samurai movies, this is not one to pass by. The costume is up to par, the makeup is maybe a lil to little gritty, but that is the normal case for Samurai movies. The effects are good enough to keep the story going, and not to mention CGI is kept to an absolute minimum which is a relief. Use for some kill shots, using real blades as much as possible. Real effects are always to prefer, some things can be hard to create in reality though. If you like Samurai movies where the protagonist isn't a superhuman blade swining deathmachine, this viewing would be for you. Though it must be said that one or two of the injuries that the hero receives would be hard to survive (given the blades were as sharp as shown). Note the cinematography and story have a little slant towards the saga'esque.

Pro's Costume Storyline Possibly a sequel coming (?)

Con's The overacting towards the end from one of the antagonists Some moments feel way too much as post year 2000. Semi open ending

End notes: Reminiscent of Shundo (2013) but with a brighter storyline and costume/backdrop in execution.
