Oru kuppai kadhai!
The Director wanted to prove something... but failed
This film suppose to speak about displacement and how it affects the working class people, but this film is full of stereotypes just like the director's mentor's films. The first few minutes of the movie was somewhat good, the character of Kalai how he is struggling to get a decent job, his relationship with his friends Karna and Raaki, his relationship with his co-worker, other than these few scenes nothing works in this film. In certain emotional scenes the film seems like a dark comedy. They could have spoken so many things like how the people are been chased by the Government away from their own land, how bad the construction and facilities in the Slum Clearance Board (Urban Habitat Development Board in present) and Housing Corporation, there are few dialogues in this film about education is being denied to them but rather going deep into problem the director focuses on the problems in weed selling and smashing televisions from the rooftop. The final scene where the character Rosa Malar wanting to do abortion and the frame followed by the blood spilling on white tiles with the baby's cry on the background. It's not clear how this scene is relevant to the title Jail or the problems of displacement, is this some kind of metaphor or it's just the director's support to Pro-Life, and either way that scene was pointless. Overall this film is not just a failed attempt but a pull back from breaking the stereotypes.
Dramatic garbage!!
Expected good story, but the director cheated. The direction was compromised. Screenplay, story was pathetic. The message was not delivered well. Cinematography was good. Liked the music.
