A couple of disclaimers first. I have not seen the original Telegu superhit Arjun Reddy. I am also a huge fan of Shahid Kapoor and believe that he has been underrated as an actor and fairly unlucky at the box office. Even as I pen this review, "Kabir Singh" is racing towards a Rs 100 crore collection in its fifth day of release and is Shahid's biggest hit ever. Glad that his moment under the sun has come. Yet deeply disturbed that it has come on this abhorrent vehicle. The vile characterisation of Kabir Singh totally eclipses the other admirable thespians and brilliant performances from all. True that some of Shahid's earlier successful essays were on flawed individuals; in Kaminey and in Haider. Yet Kabir Singh embodies perhaps the most repugnant excrement of society; the embodiment of a man as predatory, uncouth, feral, destructive and the worst misogynist beyond imagination. He kisses without consent, slaps his lady love and abuses her parents, chases his maid servant for breaking a glass, warns students that he owns the girl, overdoses on substance abuse and his unfettered testosterone; the dehumanisation is sickening. Unrequited love? In between alcohol and drugs and pining for the woman he has lost, he satisfies his rampant libido with multiple emotionless encounters and shoves down ice cubes in his pants when no coupling is possible. Is this the narcissistic and revolting Devdas of modern times? Dark characters are fine as artistic expressions as long as their denouement is destruction; you walk away with the lesson of what not to be. Kabir Singh presents no such respite. He is miraculously redeemed sans any evidence of withdrawal symptoms and uphill emotional battles or any other scars as evidence. Artistic licenses have to be hemmed within social mores; responsible film-making and censorship require to evaluate dramatic freedom with the touchstone of societal impact. I was aghast to see the youth of today; men and women alike celebrate this noxious toxicity in abandon at the theatres. Kabir Singh has regressed us in years as we sit in the modern Colosseum salivating and cheering when the animal mauls his women, his friends, his family in hedonistic abandon. As I walked out the audience in a state of shock and utterly apologetic that I am an Indian male, I heard frenzied whispers from a teenager swaggering out, that a Tamil remake "Varmaa" is already on its way and would be a must-watch! Kabir Singh may be a coronation for commercial success and histrionics; yet it will remain a scathing epitaph for responsible cinema.

A slur on responsible film making
1 out of 10 as there is no option for ZERO
There is nothing that stands out in this movie.. 8+ rating on IMDB made me go, but next time I will need to check other sites too.
Shahid's Over the Top acting and his dialogue delivery is so bad that it makes you cringe. Aweful direction. Director tried to project Kabir as stubborn and snappy but it only came out as pathetic, misogynistic, physco and girlfriend beater.
Dialogues like PMS one or 'what if we both were Maharajas' are horrible, out of the blue without any link to the scene and cringe worthy.
First kiss between Shahid and Kiara and Shahid saying 'kissi be Nahin dekha', is Kabir sexually assaulting Kiara. Preethi's character is so weak in the movie, its shocking.
There are some movies that are bad that you want to leave early, and there are movies that are so bad that just out of curiousity you want to stay back to see if it can be any worst. Guess what, yes sometimes they can be.. Kabir Singh is..
Shocking - Avoid At All Costs
Kabir Singh
I have seen hundreds of Bollywood movies and yet I am shocked and disgusted how terrible this movie was, it was perhaps the worst movie I have ever seen.
Kabir, the lead, was an unreconstructed Neanderthal from a privileged background who groomed a young woman largely again her will, humiliated her, abused her both mentally and physically and then abandoned her, later to discover she was pregnant with his child.
Kabir, was a sexist and violent bully who used every trick to get his own way. He hated all women he did not respect anyone. In addition he was both promiscuous a drug addict and alcoholic.
If this was presented as a comedy this was misplaced I saw nothing to laugh at.
I would have banned this movie as the movie seeks to show Kabir's behaviour as a model for others without condemnation.
No movie should promote rape or sexual violence or be complicit in the taking of drugs and alcohol, compounded by the fact that Kabir was meant to be an eminent surgeon.
The Director and writers should be dismissed and hang their heads in shame at this dangerous tripe.
Also I must say never have I seen such horrible and ill fitting wigs, the father's wig was a different colour from the actors own hair and we could see the border of the wig at the hairline, it was like some dead ferret and Kabir's unmoving helmet of hair was like the Dougal from the car wash, what were the stylists thinking nothing. Total morons!
