The film centers on Chanteraide (François Civil) perhaps the best sonar man in the world being able to identify subs from the nuances of their signature noise. A crisis comes about and Chanteraide is called upon to play Denzel Washington and save the world from submarine nuclear disaster.
I found the film interesting although the whole idea of France going toe to toe with anyone unilaterally when they have a NATO alliance was the most unbelievable aspect of the film. That, and the whole premise of the film.
FYI US ICBM submarines operate within a small launch window area. The targets are programmed into the missiles before they go to sea. The captain and crew are not told their targets, but they generally have a good idea. I imagine the same is true with France. Now submarines tend to tilt. Books on a shelf and glasses on a table unsecured are not convincing.
Guide: sex and brief nudity (Paula Beer or some boy with a shaved chest)

Invisible and silent I bring death.
some good action
A French submarine is off the Syrian coast waiting to pick up a special force unit. First there is an Iranian frigate. Then there is an unknown ship. It's a new type of Russian submarine. It releases a wolf's call alerting the Iranians to the French submarine's position. Later, the Russians invade disputed islands belonging to Finland. Socks is obsessed with the sonic signature of the new Russian sub. It's actually a Soviet era submarine assumed to have been decommissioned.
This seems technically sound. It has some good action but it's not the ridiculous Hollywood action. There is realistic geopolitical situations. The problem is that the climax is not the protagonist fighting the antagonist. One does revel in the destruction being wrecked. The only true climax would be Socks joining a submarine to take down the rogue submarine. The French would be sunk by their own forces. Then it would become a great quest of personal revenge. This is generally a good action movie.
Can you hear me now?
Some things may sound boring ... I can imagine a job description that may not attract too many people. Also you have to have talent for this ... and be a bit kinky I guess (a strange love scene occurs here to say the least). But when it is done like it is in this movie, there is quite the suspense created.
So when the world is on the brink of World War, being able to know what you hear can be more than imperative. A very solid thriller, that those who have issues with closed spaces may not want to watch. Those who are into thrillers that really play out well, will love this ... maybe not the end, but that will be a matter of taste ... I did like it, but I can imagine others having issues with it.
