Madison County doesn't have an original plot, or anything special in terms of effects or storytelling. What it does have is capable acting, good cinematography and sound, and a decent score on scares and gore without really resorting to exploitation. If you adjust for the low budget, Madison County is massively successful in what it tries to do. If you don't, it's still fine as a slasher-y version of Deliverance.

Plot summary
A group of college kids travel to a small, mountain town called Madison County to interview the author of a tell-all book on the accounts of several grisly murders that happened there. But when the kids get to Madison County, the author is no where to be found and the towns people act like they haven't seen him in years. They also say that the killer never existed and the murders never happened. However, when the kids start digging around to get their own answers, they find out that the stories may be more real than the townspeople are letting on!

Let's talk about value
SHOULDN'T WE ALL STICK TOGETHER?
A group of four college students travel to a small Ozark community to interview David Randall (Dayton Knoll) who claims the county has a serial killer who has never been caught and the town covers up. The five students are lead by James (Colley Bailey) and his friend Will (Matt Mercer). Will brings his girlfriend Brook (Joanna Sotomura). Her girlfriend Jenna (Natalie Scheetz) tags along because she likes James. Brook's unlikable brother Kyle (Ace Marrero) crashes the group because he doesn't like Will with his sister.
I think the opening pretty much gives you a fairly predictable plot. The movie has killing with the occasional blood squirt and close-up. It shakes the camera around to create excitement. The story ends without full closure, unless you read between the lines and even then it doesn't explain everything. It lines itself up for a sequel. The film needed some humor in the beginning and maybe create a running joke or some irony with the killing. It lacked good dialogue and Kyle was the only character that was built and that was only because he was a d-bag. Might work as a slasher rental. Don't spend too much.
Parental Guide: F-bomb, no sex, nudity (skinny dippers)
Run of the mill
Or was that away from the mill? There's no mill here of course. This still fits perfectly in the slasher genre formula. The teens, the baddie and a few other "surprises". The story is not really something to get too excited about. Unfortunately the gore/blood scenes are not that top notch either. Combine that with below the average acting from most connected to this and you get something you don't really have to watch.
Don't start to wonder why character behave certain ways or why logic and reason will never apply to those kids/teens depicted in most of those movies (especially the ones at the bottom of the barrel). If it has to be a slasher movie, there are far better ones out there for you to choose from.
