A group of miners opts to work a hazardous mine rather than shut it down because a paycheck means more than their life. They sang "The Miner's Prayer" and not "Big Bad John" or "Sixteen Tons." So guess what happens next time they go into the mine? Just a matter of who, besides the main characters, makes it out.
The film was made in coal country which made the film dreary and realistic. I am not sure if the film makes the miners look brave or like uneducated wage slaves. The coal industry is killing itself as the veins are deeper and with less coal making mining more expensive to produce than what the market will pay.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

A Pit Filled with Hell
Not mine
Mining - you have to have done it to really appreciate what the guys (and gals I reckon) are doing down there. During the end credits we do get to see some light (interviews with real miners) shed upon that subject matter.
Not an easy life ... even tougher when things go south ... is that pun? Can one say it about mining? Well whatever the case you better not be claustrophobic ... yes this is a movie, but it won't be an easy watch .. in the slightest. Drama and hardship .... and thrill that will or is able to get you to the edge of your seat.
Heartbreaking, but lacks finesse
This story in undoubtedly heartbreaking and unfortunately not out of the realm of possibility. Coal mines are dangerous when not properly designed or managed. The movie itself had a good storyline, but lacked some finesse. The acting was okay - the dialogue didn't often flow well. The cinematography was really great, but the sound editing didn't do justice.
