wonderful
A window into a beautiful, strained island
<Disclosure: I have met the director and cinematographer and think they are good people doing interesting, creative work>
Takeaways: 1) I have never been to Trinidad & Tobago, but this film gave me a window into the place and culture that make me want to learn more. And visit if I can.
2) History, time, and culture are complicated. A person growing up on top of of these layers is dealing with a lot... same as it ever was.
3) Visual scenes that stick out and will remind me of this film: the physical beauty of a palm orchard, Moko Jumbies, a dramatic beach surrounded by sandstone cliffs, the serious but beautiful people (older and younger) that portrayed the characters.
Really glad I was able to watch this film. One of the most memorable I have watched, regardless of budget, in the past 10 years.
So much potential
This movie really showcases how powerful the folklore in Trinidad is. The use of the spirits and moko jumbies was excellent. I felt as though the ending was rushed but overall it was an enjoyable experience. Loved uncle Jagessar's performance!
