16th century Korea. Several people led by fierce and noble former general Yoon Gyeom (a fine and commanding portrayal by Myung-Min Kim) band together to find out if rumors about a vicious giant predatory monster that's reportedly terrorizing the countryside are true.
Director/co-writer Jong-ho Huh relates the complex and compelling story at a constant pace, offers a flavorsome evocation of the past period setting, delivers a handy helping of blood-spurting violence, stages the exciting fight and monster attack scenes with rip-roaring brio, brings an epic scope to the neat premise, generates a good deal of tension, and even gives the titular beast a poignant backstory.
Moreover, this film further benefits from stand-out acting from a tip-top cast, with especially praiseworthy contributions Hyeri Lee as the feisty Myung, Choi Woo-sik as the eager Heo, Kim In-Kwon as the bumbling, but loyal Sung Han, and Hee-soon Park as the morally upright King Jung Jong. The monster looks really gnarly, too. A superior creature feature.

The beast is real
Adorable...
I love the way they mixed humor in the midst of drama, suspense, almost terror, cinema praying presenting great productions, impeccable quality, convincing little monster, based on a real legend, or not, because I found nothing on the net, but captivates me, adorable...
Monstrum season.
Getting set for the weekend,I decided to check Shudder UK's Twitter page. Finding on their page a announcement of a Korean Horror being uploaded,I got ready to encounter the Monstrum.
View on the film:
Causing absolute carnage in the 16th century King Jungjong's reign,co-writer/(with Heo-dam and Jeong-uk Byeon) director Jong-ho Huh & cinematographer Dong-Yeong Kim fire flaming arrows at the Manstrum tipped with long shaking dolly shots bringing a Dynasty Warriors flavour to the battles, via the dolly shots rapidly spinning round the fighting warriors. Whilst the CGI can look iffy when it is running towards people, Jong-ho gives Monstum a mighty roar, thanks to a limited use of fire highlighting the hairs on the beast.
Bringing Monstum to life in the middle of a battle for the kingdom, the screenplay by Jong-ho, Byeon and Heo-dam string the Monster Movie with high-wire Wuxia Melodrama from Yoon Gyeom fighting to keep Jong's kingdom secure,as others see the Monstum as the chance to stage a coup. Spending the first 40 minutes building up the monster with Gyeom finding the leftover bodies of victims left in its path, the writers oddly undermine the threat of the beast, with badly judged fart jokes taking the roar from the Monstrum.
