Here we have the "MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time" from the year 2020 and actually this aired on 6 December 2020, so it is not even two weeks old. I would call it fresh, but quality-wise this is not really the case here I guess. It's just new. If you take a look at the first half if the title, you will see what this is all about. i think they gave this event a new name anyway last year or in 2018 and it does sound a bit clumsy. However, because of the corona pandemic, there was no standard ceremony and this is where the second half of the title comes into play. There you can read that this was a bit of a best-of ceremony really. But first things first: I will spare you the names of the director and two writers as you can check those out for yourself, but let me assure you that these three are all really experienced when it comes to directing (awards) shows. Sadly, it did not pay off for this show to turn into a quality event. Not even a mediocre event to be honest. Two of those three even have several Emmy nominations. Well, this one here will not bring them the win eventually. That much is safe. It is a really short show all in all and given the quality this was probably a pretty wise choice. Runs for exactly an hour (without commercials). Minimally over. The host is Vanessa Hudgens and I must say I am not really that big on her anymore as I once was. I mean I don't hate her or anything, but real star potential and talent I don't see here. neither in terms of acting, nor in terms of singing. Her hosting was tolerable. Not bad, but also not really anything to remember. Must be said though that the material also was not helping her at all this time. The stage's looks ummm I'm not sure. It was meant to look pretty spectacular and memorable for sure, but I did not really get the vibe here. Seemed a bit strange to me as I as not sure how much of it was real and how much effects. There were also two fairly famous musicians right there with Hudgens and they delivered some music occasionally. You can check out the names for yourself if you care. I must say the music also did not win me over here.

This show felt much more about the people included during the brief highlight segments. Like Gellar and Blair with their still somewhat epic kiss scene from "Cruel Intentions". But even these better moments really felt okay in a way because the rest of the show was so flat and forgettable. Take Sandler and Barrymore reuniting, even if only via cam. I like them both, especially Sandler. Barrymore maybe not as much as I once did. But their little joking around about what is (not) better than themselves could have been so much funnier and more entertaining. They still make it work somehow, but if they unite these two again, which by the way was a great idea really and amazing they also get big names here, they should have come up with more entertaining stuff. Then there is a segment in which Downey and Cheadle honor the late Chadwick Boseman, who, months after his death, has a goo chance to score his first Oscar nomination this season, maybe even an outisde shot at the win. Tough to say at this point. But yeah, the two alive actors I just mentioned are people that I certainly liked more ten, maybe even fifteen, years ago than I do today, which resulted in this little tribute now making a lasting impression on me. Pity. Boseman would have deserved it. But it makes sense these two were there kind of with the Avengers connection, although I am sure they could have found others too with a closer conenction. Still, no offense to him as he was definitely a talented performer, I wonder a bit why of all the many, many people who died in 2020. Also big names from the entertainment industry, Boseman was the only one who got such a tribute. I mean I did not expect MTV to honor Sean Connery (although it would have been nice),but they should have made a longer segment there with more names. They sure had the time to do so. Okay, what else? Oh yes, goats are amazing. No denying there. And Kevin Bacon hugging a goat is like the best thing ever. From that moment on, it went all south quality-wise. You can basically turn it off when Bacon (in a Footloose tribute that felt a bit random) is gone from the broadcast. Kinda amazing in a sad way by the way howw I can fins this show so uninteresting although I love goats and they are featured a lot here kind of. But when Hudgens hits the ground with a goat running away, it all feels so forced and staged that it was cringeworthy. Just show me the goats and forget about all the celebrities in here. And the clumsy connection between the animals and the mening "greatest of all time" also did not work at all the way it was put on display here. Not funny. Not relevant. Kevin Hart I have never been too big on and David Spade was fairly forgettable. The advertizing for the new Wonder Woman movie felt wrong for all kinds of reasons. If the show is this short, then do not stuff it with advertizing. Despicable. However, I never really cared much for the franchise or Gadot, so maybe I am biased there, but honestly I don't think so. Would have said this about every movie, also if Sandler played the main part. The strange music performance briefly before the middle of the show was so bizarre. Not really in a positive way. Jamie Lee Curtis right afterwards was better, admittedly rather thanks to the fella showing up next to her. Her mask comments weren't smart or funny or accurate. Just forced and for the sake of it. And finally Kristen Bell was the negative icing on this highly undelicious cake. It's a massive thumbs-down from me. As I wrote in the title of my review, it would have been better if this had never taken place. They just should have skipped the 2020 edition instead. Only good thing here is that it was such a short running time. And the goats and bacon of course. But this is obviously not enough for an hour. Go skip this one here and instead go for a Kevin Bacon movie or a nature documentary on goats. Highly not recommended.
