While a collection of vignettes cannot tell as much as other forms of communication, and the pacing is quite uneven, this is an interesting depiction of daily lives from the point of view of Brazilian LGBT+ people. You probably won't learn much if you're already familiar with the topic in any way, and I can't tell if this is a good introduction for someone who is not an expert, but I'd still recommend this because of its humanizing, relaxed approach: some important political points are made, but most of the time is filled with images of people who have a life, are not afraid of who they are, clearly have rounded personalities and, most importantly, are not suffering all the time. It's so rare to see anything about trans people where the focus is not on suffering and pain and terrible discrimination and terrible families and yada yada; it's a part of many of our lives, of course, but what is shown here is the other side, the side where fun, pride and the results of one's action, no matter how small, are celebrated. It genuinely felt as if I was hanging out with the folks in my local LGBT+ circles, having fun with them and listening to what happened to them lately. There's obviously differences, because we're in different Countries and everyone is different, but it was refreshing and made me miss the times when socialization in real life was still possible.
Plot summary
In Brazil, transphobia continues to run violently rampant. Paula, Beatriz, Giu and Fernando live in the poor suburbs of Sao Paulo, fighting against a country's injustices, and their own survival, by simply following their daily routine.
