Close Encounters of the Turd Kind.

In 2015 my son insisted we watch Brendan Fraser 'comedy' Furry Vengeance (2010). I forgave him. Eventually. Today he suggested we go see Nope. It's going to be a long time before I am able to let this one go. Directed by Jordan Peele, Nope is without a doubt the worst film I have ever seen at the cinema in almost fifty years of movie-going, and quite possibly the most tedious movie I have seen, period.

The plot is disjointed and repetitive with many scenes making very little sense, the pacing is incredibly slow, and the characters are hugely irritating (Keke Palmer and Michael Wincott were awful, and Stephen Yeun and Brandon Perea weren't much better). I have no idea what Peele was aiming for: I don't understand the relevance of the killer chimpanzee and the floating shoe, or how fifty skydancers (those inflatable figures on car showroom forecourts that gyrate in the wind) can be purchased and installed in a matter of hours. I fail to see how a massive flying extraterrestrial that feeds on people can go unnoticed for so long. Why did OJ and Emerald speak like they were from an inner city ghetto when they were born and raised in the country? Would Emerald really be into The Jesus Lizard? And who was that person on the motorcycle and why was his helmet so strange?

Knowing Peele, there is undoubtedly hidden meaning and symbolism in the film, but I don't go to the cinema to be bored out of my skull for well over two hours and then have to research what it was all about afterwards. I want to be entertained. And I most definitely wasn't. I'd rather watch a double bill of Cats (2019) and Birds of Prey (2020) than watch Nope again.

Nope to NOPE

Yikes! Ay yi yi! Where do I begin? Whomever rated this over 1 star has no grasp of what entertainment entails. It does not involve emotionally dead acting (Daniel Kaluuya at his absolute worse) an irritating co-star (Keke Palmer) and NO cohesiveness in the plot (a killer chimp with no connection to the main premise? Why? Just why?) -- and way too many other nonsensical points that I just don't want to waste more time listing.

The FX were lackluster also...the UAP (new term for UFOs) looked like it was covered with fabric, and the writing/script was just horrific...it meandered aimlessly, and was actually quite annoying. Very banal and pedestrian. The movie was also overlong, and just plain wasn't worth my time. Jordan Peele got lucky with Get Out, but, trust me, no such luck here. Doubt me if you will, but believe me, you will live to regret viewing this utter garbage if you dare to do so. For those saying people who rate this crap low just "don't get it" -- they are the ones that are missing the point. A bad movie is just a bad movie. You can't polish a turd.

Hell NOPE! NO WAY this movie is 7.1!

It's 4 of 10 @ best. It shouldn't even be considered a horror movie. I wanted to like this movie a whole lot more, & I had no expectation of it. The 1st 2 thirds of the movie was great. We didn't get any back story on the 'monster', b/ ok... I can live w/ that. Daniel Kaluuya & Keke Palmer certainly deliver, the directing was decent & the supporting cast was good, too. Michael Wincott was a nice touch... hardly recognizable. BUT, the f'g ufo/ parachute monster was such a cop out. When the movie went in that direction, I was like NOOOOOOOOO! B/ I'd already watched 2 thirds of the movie, so I just let the rest ride... b/ talk about disappointed. It clearly is the worst of the Jordan Peele movies, in my opinion... w/o a doubt!
