"Only the Animals" is a Drama - Thriller movie in which we follow the disappearance of a woman and how the lives of five people are linked to it. Each person has his/her secrets and he/she does not want to reveal them to anyone.
I liked this movie because it had a very interesting plot that contained plenty of mystery and it was well combined with drama, something that made the movie even more interesting. The direction which was made by Dominik Moll was very good and he presented very well the whole story from different perspectives without making it confusing or creating plot holes. The interpretations of Denis Ménochet who played as Michel Farange, Nadia Tereszkiewicz who played as Marion, Laure Calamy who played as Alice Farange and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi who played as Evelyne Ducat were all great and the combination of their characters fitted to the plot. In conclusion, I have to say that "Only the Animals" surprised me so, I highly recommend everyone to watch it because I am sure it will amaze you.
Plot summary
A woman is missing. Following a snowstorm, her car is found on the road up to a plateau where a few isolated farms struggle to survive. While the gendarmes have no leads, five people know that they are linked to this disappearance. They all have their secrets, but no one suspects that the whole story began far from this mountain swept by winter winds, on another continent where the sun beats down and where poverty does not prevent desire from dictating its laws.

Nice thriller...
intense crimedrama...
With a set up that may confuse some but for almost every squemish lover of european quality filmaking the plotting and mouse in a maze like ''a-ha'' experience at the end is really a headbanger of silverscreen extasy.
its a film about living in harsh , desolate conditions in the french countryside, its cybercrime, its trafficking, libertism, love and adultery, madness and ultimately death under deaftifying way of circumstances.
this film is worth a view just for the sound and visual production, and ive already spotted the shoot locations on data from zoom earth and it is , yes , desolate.
acting is pure natural ,and and the casting crew done a great choice of actors.
in 1977 french tv made a crime series called rendez vous en noir with daniel auteil on the cast, well i ll caompare the tension equal to that serie with this film.
not good written a review, but a 10 starm recommendation from the grumpy old man, well made, extremely thrilling
Needs to be watched several times.
Well, that's a rather pretty brilliant French feature, daring story, but unfortunately showing many plot holes big enough to let a pacific liner get thru. Complex story, but the kind of scheme that we can see from time to time since several decades now, and you don't need to search back in time till Akira Kurosawa's RASHOMON or Marty Ritt''s THE OUTRAGE, to see such a topic and movie structure. Major hole is when we see Michel let his car in the middle of nowhere and just after we see him in the middle of Abidjan downtown. And how the hell did he find Armand's trail? That's the first question. And what a coincidence that Armand finds a picture so close to the young blonde whom Michel meets thru the website. And who is the man with Armand's girl friend, who emigrates to France? I repeat, this movie needs to be watched again and again. And I would add that's not the kind of film to show to a racist dude, because that's not after watching it that he will change his opinion towards Black people. I won't say that's a racist story, not even denouncing racism - on the contrary - no, I only say that's the kind of film that can enhance racism for weak minded and easily influenced people. Such facts exist, it's not a cliché because it's TRUE. But don't forget that the policemen who arrest the Internet swindler accuse him of abusing weak folks. And those cops are also Black; So, if you dig deep enough into this question, this movie doesn't bring a racist message at all. But for normal and balanced minds only, not racist oriented one. That's a big difference. Because a racist person will only see what he or she wishes to see.
