As someone who has been following this story since it "broke" this was a perfect way to get all the tea. The documentary had a nice style that flowed well. The people interviewed were relevant for the most part. The doc was an even mix of re-enactments and interviews, and the facts felt authentic. No one was surprised to hear that the elites were paying to get their kids into college, but it feels good to know that some got busted.

The tea I needed
But what about the money?
"Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal" is a fine commendable movie about the admissions scandal that plagued America in the late 2010's.
We exanmine Rick Singer's stories and schemes in getting rich yoing kids getting into universities of prestige (whatever that means, to me a colleague degree is a college degree, a huge effort but in a way I also know that some college have more name than the others but I wonder about the outcome after one getting out of there); then there were the rich fathers scandals in paying large sums of money for their kids to enroll in those place, some bits about Lori Laughlin and Felicty Huffman cases; and the outcome when the scheme started to fail, the trials for fraud and arrests were made. Fine.
But the heart of the matter goes when we find out Rick Singer still has a pending sentence, some parents were sent to months in jail, and some college representants were acquitted and I was wondering: if there was a case for fraud and legal issues involving money, lots of money, how come all the money collected by the institutions weren't returned or used to included poor students who suffer the way to get into the game? The money should have been returned or used to pay those suits or better to make less fortunate students to get a chance to study in those prestigious colleges to compensate for their wrongdoings in accepting bribery. The movie doesn't answers that but we probably know the answer: the money is fine and legal when it gets there; just the actions were all wrong. Goes to show the prestige these Harvards, Princetons, USC's have. And what about the students? They just go through the shame and embarassment. Was justice done? 8/10.
Prestige = Deceit
Documented very well.
Rick Singer was the mastermind behind this scandal. Many parents wanted to get their children into colleges for sure and paid money to Rick Singer.
In the end we see college advisors state that prestige is all an illusion. The school you go to has very little effect on how your future looks. The USA has 3000 schools. Don't go to USC one says, go somewhere else. The impact these school rankings have on today's teens...it creates a lot of anxiety for them.
