Carol Walker (Angela Bassett),Gillian Lieberman (Patricia Arquette),and Helen Halston (Felicity Huffman) are best friends and suburban moms. Their sons are grown and living in New York City. Their motherhood has turned into otherhood. It's Mother's Day and they decide for surprise visits in the city.
If this has any chance of working, the three women need to stay together for as long as possible. This needs to be about their friendships. Instead, it's more about their sons. Quite frankly if that's the concept, one mother and one son are all that is needed for this movie. That would be better than this or I'd rather have a road trip movie with these three actresses and short pit stop visits for each son. There is one good joke about sagging bridge at the beginning and then the ladies are quickly split up. They do reunite in the middle but by that, their chemistry stagnates. The nightclub is a good bounce back. I keep thinking that there is a good movie here with the three ladies but their mommy issues get into the way. They are defined by the movie for their motherhood which I guess is the point.

A sweet mothers movie
I really enjoyed this movie. It is not an outrageous comedy but a nice and heartwarming movie about mother's relationships with their sons as well as their friendship.
It has a great cast. Some great actresses in the role of mothers and really talented sons. I definitely had no problems with the performance.
The movie is not unpredictable but it is really well done. I like all the different issues they added into the movie to make the relationships of the characters more complex. And while it is not a big comedy it still has a lot of moments that make one smile and laugh out loud.
I see my father all the time but don't remember when was last I met with my mother. This movie sure makes me want to change that.
SATC for Moms
Cindy Chupack of SATC directed this feel good comedy about mothers visiting their sons in NYC for Mothers Day. Each of the stories is different and cute. It's nice to find this kind of ensemble comedy that doesn't go over familiar ground. Some scenes are laugh out loud funny and some are touching.
Angela Bassett looks great. Felicity Huffman is good at comedy a nice change from all the serious roles of late.
Worth a watch.
