Carol Anne has been sent to live with her Aunt Patricia Wilson-Gardner (Nancy Allen),her husband Bruce Gardner (Tom Skerritt),and stepdaughter Donna Gardner (Lara Flynn Boyle) in the Chicago highrise which Bruce manages. Her relatives don't know the story of her ghostly encounters. Carol Anne is in group treatment under the care of disbelieving Dr. Seaton when Rev. Henry Kane reappears. Tangina Barrons is alerted to his presence.
First, it's her older sister. Now, it's her parents. They may as well make Carol Anne an orphan in the movie. It would make more sense. The whole movie is flat. It is not scary and none of it is interesting. I certainly don't want to make fun of "Carol Anne" out of respect for Heather O'Rourke. She remains a positive for the franchise till the bitter end.

Where are your parents, little girl?
Another ghastly ghostly sequel...or is it threequel?
I'd gladly sit through the entire "Police Academy" franchise in one swoop rather than watch "Poltergeist II" and "III" ever again. call the second one at least had a little bit of entertainment value, this one is so dull it's even difficult to feel sorry for Heather O'Rourke who passed away tragically before this was released. You just wanted to be over painlessly so you can move on, for some reason, you're busy counting the number of time someone screams "Carol Ann!" or the number of time Carol Ann screams. She's back along with Zelda Rubinstein who is three times as strange as she was in the previous entry, having already been twice as strange as she was in the original.
Gone, and probably not missing it at all, are JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson, replaced here by Nancy Allen and Tom skerritt as O'Rourke's aunt and uncle with whom she is now living with in Chicago while attending a privileged private school for troubled children. a bunch of wasted footage is given to their daughter played by Laura Flynn Boyle whose romantic soap opera style minor story is trite and boring.
There's another creepy old man following O'Rourke, with long stringy hair and a hat that is supposed to make him appear like the villains in other horror franchises of the 1980's, but this character fails miserably in even getting close to becoming iconic like them. dial there were many unnecessary sequels in the 1980's, this certainly is near the top of the list. watching all three in a row certainly identifies why the first one is a classic and why the second and third one really should have just been shelved when the ideas were brought up.
Redemption for Part Two
Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) is staying with her aunt (Nancy Allen) in a highrise building, and the supernatural forces that have haunted her previously follow her there.
After the disappointing second installment, we have this surprising comeback. A better story, better effects... and even though we lost most of the cast, we gained Lara Flynn Boyle, Nancy Allen and Tom Skerritt. Carol Anne has stopped being cute by this point (I am sorry to insult a dead girl, but it is true) but she is still able to carry the film.
Since I doubt we will ever see a "Poltergeist IV", I am pleased to say they ended the series on a high note. While not as good as the original, it is still decent by sequel standards and they prevented the inevitable downward spiral that happens by making endless follow-ups to a series (I am talking about you, Leprechaun and Hellraiser).
As of now (2017),I have not seen the remake, but my suspicion is that it could not be better than the original. Better than these two sequels? Sure, but we will wait and see if they start making sequels to the reboot and watch how that turns out.
