Timothy Dalton... I really loved him in Penny Dreadul and of course in Hot Fuzz...
Henry Czerny is good as usual . The movie is well shot, well filmed. It's just not that great and not that interesting. Topic been done many times and this isn't anything new to the genre.
6/10.

Plot summary
In early-1950s St. Louis, the strange case of the eleven-year-old boy, Robbie Mannheim, catches the eye of the troubled former World War II veteran and now a Catholic priest, Father William Bowdern. Bearing alarming markings on his little body, while exhibiting a disturbing behaviour and an incomprehensible power after the death of his Aunt Hanna, Robbie's worried parents turn to modern medicine to help their child; however, when science fails, they resort to religion. Now, with the Vatican's reluctant consent, Bowdern must face the unholy entity that possesses Robbie and perform the first documented exorcism in America. But, the dark enemy is powerful, and he'll use Father William's inner fears against him. Can the conflicted priest cast out the demon, and save not only the boy's life but also his very soul?

A Poor TV Movie About Exorcism
"Possessed" is a TV movie that presents an exorcist priest that tries to help a young kid who apparently got possesed by the devil. It stars Timothy Dalton. It tries to present a comedic film wherein it tries to generate laughter to the audience while the priest is at work of helping the young kid.
The movie was evidently bad. First, the jokes are unfunny and could be stupid at times. Also,we get to see a cliched movie when the viewer realized that the priest is going to succeed before the credits roll. Added to that, we also get to see a young actor as he was comedicly bad. Finally, it only supports to the widely known fact that the devil wants to be subtle in his actions as he wants to work against God but not being totally obvious to the children of God. No question that the theme of making fun of excorism which is a theme of this movie only presents the idea that the devil does not exists. No wonder that evil has been prevalent in this world.
True Story ? Yeah Right
**** MILD SPOILERS ****
This is based on a true story is it ? If that`s the case then why does the opening caption read " Somewhere in France , All saints day , 1944 " Couldn`t the caption have given the exact location ? , or would that lead people to research the integrity of this true story ? Since reading about the truth in " true stories " like PAPILLON and SLEEPERS alarm bells always ring in my head when the words " true " and " story " appear side by side , and if the story is in fact true ask yourself this question : If the events on screen actually happened then why isn`t the case better known . I mean if chairs were running around putting the boot into teachers wouldn`t that be front page news .
My second criticism is that I thought this was going to be a bit more light hearted . Of course as soon as the waffen SS turned up and got some bayonet practice in I realised this wasn`t going to be the case , but by then the damage had been done and I knew not to expect any intentional laughs
POSSESSED isn`t of much interest except for one aspect - How things used to be . For example smoking wasn`t the social crime it is now , only white people were allowed to be catholics , commies existed and wanted to drop atomic bombs on the USA , young teenage boys could be looked after by priests without any suspicion and teenagers swearing was a certain sign that there were demonic forces at work . Ah the good old days
NB : That last line was sarcasm before anyone complains
