Dominic Monaghan ... as a father. I have to admit when I first saw him with the main character, I thought they were love interests. But the movie is not build that way. Generally speaking really good cast. A bit of apocalyptic flavor thrown in for good measure - and some road movie cliches to keep you on your toes.
Not a bad movie at all, but not one that will excite many either I reckon. Some intersting twists and turns, that I think most can tell and see coming - if they actually think about it. I personally just watched it and went with the flow.

Going for it
Nothing to see here
RADIOFLASH is a typical low budget sci-fi/horror flick with nothing we haven't seen before. It's another story of the apocalypse, told on a small scale from the points of view of a couple of largely uninteresting characters. As per usual with this genre, the only real snippets of interest are the things we see briefly or in the background, namely the breakdown of society in the face of disaster. The biggest shock of this cliched movie is the fact that former hobbit Dominic Monaghan is old enough to have a grown-up kid. Elsewhere, genre dependables like Will Patton and Miles Anderson are largely wasted. Not a bad film per se, just too familiar, too derivative, and too unexciting to be of much interest.
Focus on the solution, not the problem
An EMP of some undefined nuclear blast takes out all the power on the west coast. Reese (Brighton Sharbino) and her dad (Dominic Monaghan) head for Grandpa Frank (Will Patton) because he is a crazy survivalist who lives in the woods off the land. On day 2 the gas is gone and the looting starts. They have issues as they head into the woods and the film turns into an inbred hillbilly survival film.
Why do neon and blacklights indicate the future? It starts out as if it was futuristic, but then it shows it is not. I thought the whole hillbilly kidnap thing was stupid and that was half the film.
Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
