I'm a huge zombie movie fan but even I recognize that the whole sub-genre is saturated and there are some real stinkers out there at the moment. Sadly Redcon-1 certainly comes under that category.
It tells the tale of a group of soldiers sent into the "Quarantine" zone to retrieve a person of interest. The rest, pretty much writes itself and is a mixture of generic and really quite terrible.
The zombies aren't your traditional type, in fact they aren't even your modern sprinting kind either. Here you'll see the undead doing everything from wielding weapons, communicating with one another and even sitting watching porn (Not joking). They truly are some of the worst zombies I've seen on screen.
The cast are your usual rabble of stereotypes and are so generic they could have interchanged some cast members mid film and I'd not even have noticed. The leading man is the only one who delivers, and that's only noticeable because of just how bad everyone else is by comparison.
The film has real video game influences, the Telltale Walking Dead and Dead Island clearly had something to do with it both in content and musical score. That worked really well to be honest, but not well enough to turn the movie around.
Interestingly the movie gets better the further in it goes, in fact by the end I kind of felt a bit bad giving it such a low rating. Make no mistake however even near the end there are some truly moronic moments.
Not the worst out there, but still pretty dire. With a better writer (And cast) this perhaps could have been something bearable.
The Good:
Great influences
Nice score
The Bad:
Worst.....zombies......ever
Awful characters
Plot is a disjointed mess
Far too long

Redcon-1: Really quite terrible
Typical indie
REDCON-1 is a film that seems to have disappointed a lot of people, and I can see why. This was advertised as an epic action-filled zombie fight flick, but in reality it's a typical independent production of the kind you see dozens of all over Amazon Prime. A team of soldiers battle against zombies in an apocalyptic world, but what this means is a load of location shooting in Wales and poor scripting throughout. There are a few familiar faces in the cast, including Carlos Gallardo from EL MARIACHI, of all things, with the stand-out being strongman Mark Strange. The film strives to be slick but is way over-edited and with a two hour running time it just goes on interminably and predictably until the end.
We don't have enough bullets.
The film opens up giving us a detailed narrative about the virus that causes increased aggression, the area is quarantined, it is a blood-borne pathogen, and they need to find the doctor who created it for a cure. Now I am not sure why they need the doctor to create an anti-virus is unknown. I would think many labs could do that.
The send a military group to find the doctor. With it being a deadly blood-borne pathogen, I would have had all my skin covered, especially the mouth and nose where blood could splatter as well as a mess-o-Clorox wipes. That is just me.
One of the aggressive infected humans was using cocaine. Got to wonder what he was feeling. The first hour they spend looking for the doctor and the second half is spent getting out including the silly twist all these types of films utilize. The captain developed feelings for the girl. I did not. I did like one of the people who was killed.
In addition to the infected, there are gangs of uninfected looters and hooligans. For some reason, they didn't do much editing leaving us with a long film and a lot of fighting and repeated flashbacks.
