Resident Evil: Apocalypse is a kick-ass action flick but when i first watched it on video way back in early 2000's i didn't like it. Now in 2022 I've watched it again & think it's Awesome!!!
Apocalypse isn't as good as the first film but it's still a damn good sequel & companion piece to that film.
The Apocalyptic scale of Raccoon City promised at the end of the first film is on full display here. The city is in a panic & the corrupted Umbrella company is locking everything down & locking everyone in. The virus has spread from the reopening of The Hive & our hero Alice (Milla Jovivich) is on the hunt. Jovovich is Awesome again in her "Ripley" type of role & gets to team up with other survivors including some left-behind S. T. A. R. S soldiers & what we get is a group of survivors trying to make their way to safety & rescue a young girl lost in the chaos.
The action scenes are well done with cool kick-ass stunts & slick feel to it all. The atmosphere is done well with a blueish look to everything & with a mist & rain it has a nice Horror film feel & look. There's plenty of Zombie action & the cool looking Nemesis creature that is like a big mutant Terminator & looks Awesome.
Mike Epps (Next Friday) is pretty fun as one of the group & has fun in his role.
Apocalypse is just a damn good fun action-packed ride, a fun late-night movie ride.

Plot summary
Alice awakens from a terrible sleep to find her worst fears realized--the bloodthirsty Undead, which she and the now-annihilated squad of elite military fought to destroy, have been unleashed on the city that surrounds the secret facility of the Umbrella Corporation. Discovering she was an Umbrella experiment, Alice has been bio-genetically enhanced with new strengths, senses and dexterity--and she will need them. In the heart of the ravaged Raccoon City, a small group of uninfected people, including Jill Valentine, a recently demoted member of Raccoon City's elite Special Tactics and Rescue Services team, and Umbrella Corporation Security Officer Carlos Oliveira, fight for their lives against swarms of Undead and the deadlier and faster Lickers. Running out of luck and resources, the group is rescued by Alice, and they begin to wage an exhilarating battle to survive and escape before the Umbrella Corporation erases its experiment from the face of the earth. Their only hope lies somewhere within Raccoon City--Dr Charles Ashford, one of the leading scientists for the Umbrella Corporation, will help Alice and the others escape the city safely--if they find his daughter. Angie Ashford became separated from her father and now hides in fear. Alice, Jill and Carlos will have to fight their way through an army of Undead to save her. All the while, a secret weapon code-named Nemesis has been experimentally altered with greater modifications than Alice and has been programmed to track and destroy them. They will need all their strengths and skills to fight the battle of their lives against the mindless evil that has infected the city and the powerful forces that unleashed it on mankind.

A Really Fun Action-Packed Sci-fi Sequel
Director Alexander Witt not up to it
The Umbrella corporation's secret underground lab quarantine has been breached. Zombies and other mutants are escaping into Raccoon city up above. Umbrella has sealed off the city, and intends to nuke it to wipe out any evidence. Alice (Milla Jovovich) and various people are scattered in the city trying to survive. Meanwhile Dr. Ashford who has escaped is guiding them to rescue his daughter who is still trapped in the city.
This has the unenviable position of opening up the scale of the franchise without the needed support. The virus has spread out into the open. This movie is city wide, but the CGI has barely improved. It needs mass zombie armies, and that means lots of CGI. Instead, they're relying a lot on real stunts and real people. Director Alexander Witt just doesn't have the skills or the people to make it work.
The other problem is that the characters are widely scattered. It would be more compelling to gather them together. It would be a more simple action-horror, and it would be a better quest movie.
Great Adventure and Sequel
When Major Cain (Thomas Kretschmann) reopens The Hive, there is an outbreak of the T-Virus in Raccoon City. The Umbrella leader closes the gateway to the city and traps the survivals with the contaminated zombies, and releases Nemesis to destroy the STARS members to test how powerful this deadly weapon is. Meanwhile, Alice (Milla Jovovich),Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and Carlos Oliviera (Oded Fehr) try to find Angela, the little daughter of Dr. Ashford (Jared Harris),who is trapped in Raccoon City, as the means to escape from the siege of the city.
Although having a kind of prejudice against movies with lots explosions and special effects, I loved "Resident Evil: Apocalypse". This movie is a great non-stop adventure and sequel of the first "Resident Evil". The choreography of the fights is excellent, the heroines are marvelous and everything works well in this great entertainment. I do not play video-games, but "Resident Evil" is among the favorite ones of my son and my daughter, and now I can understand why. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Resident Evil 2: Apocalipse" ("Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse")
Note: On 31 January 2017, I saw this film again.
