"Santiago, Italia" is not a documentary, not only at least. It talks about people, their stories, their memories, their struggles. It talks about the importance and the value of hospitality and fraternity towards those who are around us. It talks about the ignoble military coup in Chile against a democratically elected government, an episode that is too often forgotten - also due to precise international political reasons - and that deserves way more attention. The point of view of Moretti Is clear but never too biased and, toward the end of the movie, it becomes clear what are the real messages that he wants to deliver to the viewer. Last, vut bot least, everything is embedded by a subtle, soft critique to the modern social and economic system, that forces us to rethink about some priorities and believes of our life. A gem.
Plot summary
After the coup d'État of the Democratic government of Allende, the embassy of Italy in Santiago played a major role in helping the opposers of the regime, and extradited many of them Italy. These brave men are represented in this outstanding movie.

Santiago, Italia: a movie that talks about people
For the sake of justice
To Mr lusilva-80976. The director himself, just into the movie, clearly says that he is NOT impartial. I did love the movie and admired the attitude. On your point of view probably I must be a leftist. Right.
Informative and moving
Almost half a century later, this documentary commemorates the end of the Allende government and The Pinochet's coup d'etat, in the form of interviews with exiled Chileans. Informative (even if the testimonies unfortunately corroborate everything I already knew) and moving.
