Flaws and all, enjoyed it more than Scream 5

It over does it on the nostalgia and occasionally frustratingly undermines it own stakes but that can't stop Scream VI from being a really good sequel that's got a killer opening, a truly brutal Ghostface and a constant stream of great set pieces unfolding at a break neck pace.

It doesn't feel that meta, especially in comparison to its predecessor but one of Scream VI's greatest strengths is truly doubling down on the whodunit/r rated Scooby Doo vibe that the series has and is always at its best at when embraced.

The core four (Barrera, Ortega, Gooding and Savoy Brown) are great, their familial bonds and friendship is so believable and their overall likeability makes them so fun to watch, proving they can definitely carry a film without the need to rely on legacy characters.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had a real knack for set pieces in the last one and they've only gotten better this time around. Each set piece is cleverly set up, inventive and unbearably tense. Particular highlights include a unnerving subway journey and early liquor store shootout.

I'm so pleased to say we are still going strong

Can I just start by saying how lucky we are to still be getting 'Scream' movies made to such a high standard. Very few series even reach six installments, let alone manage to keep the quality up to anywhere near this level. I'm starting to wonder if it's impossible to make a bad 'Scream' movie.

'Scream 6' was everything I wanted and more. The opening scene was incredible. The last time they tried a bit of a twist with this, back in 'Scream 4', I didn't love it. It felt a little too gimmicky for my liking. This time though the twist worked perfectly. It's such a great scene that sets the movie up perfectly.

From there the film plays out mostly as we've come to expect structurally. A bit of build up, then more kill scenes, interspersed with some extra character development and making everyone look suspicious, all leading up to the big finale and the big reveal.

The New York setting was cool for a change and certainly gave a different vibe to all the other 'Scream' movies. Killer scenes set in the likes of convenience stores and on subway trains were handled well. There was real potential there for the series to feel like it was trying too hard to be unique, but that's not how those scenes come across.

Did the film miss Sydney? I hate to say it, but not really. Sydney somehow showing up on the other side of the country would have felt extremely forced in my opinion. I thought her appearance in the last movie felt shoehorned in but this would've been even worse. I think if she's not the star then her appearance isn't a necessity. I would be absolutely fine with seeing her in future entries in the series of course.

There are some things that if you want to nitpick you certainly could. Some of the character decisions and logic used are as forced as they've ever been in this series. I think you have to go into this movie just expecting to have a great time and accept the ride for what it is. If you do you'll likely have an amazing time with it. 10/10.

So much better than Part 5, as great as Part 4! Way better than Halloween Ends!

Part 5 felt very forced and generic, this one felt like they actually did something more original. Even though the formula and recipe is the same as part 5, its done sooo much better here. Not really impressed with ghostface, but the kills and story are better than part 5. I don't think a part 7 would be any better than this...unless they do something totally insane and smart. Also this was SO MUCH better than Halloween Ends. I never thought I'd say that. But in every way it was better. SCREAM 6 is very rewatchable. Congrats to their team for actually pulling off a Part 6 and being better than part 5.
