Wow. Just wow.
I stumbled upon the 2018 Japanese drama "Siblings of the Cape" from writer and director Shinzô Katayama here in 2022. Needless to say that with my fascination with Asian cinema then of course I had to sit down and watch "Siblings of the Cape". Sure, I had never heard about the movie prior to watching it, but the synopsis definitely did a good job in catching my attention.
And while I didn't know what I was in for here, as I sat down to watch "Siblings of the Cape", I must admit that I had some hopes for the movie, given the synopsis. And let me just say that writer and director Shinzô Katayama managed to deliver a powerful and memorable movie with "Siblings of the Cape".
The storyline told in "Siblings of the Cape" is one that actually sinks in under the skin and sticks with you, and that definitely is something that writer and director Shinzô Katayama can be proud of, because that made "Siblings of the Cape" a very outstanding movie.
But "Siblings of the Cape" was more than just a good story. The movie had a good cast, and while I was fully and wholly unfamiliar with lead actor Yûya Matsuura (playing Yoshio) and Misa Wada (playing Mariko),then they really, really carried the movie phenomenally with some very outstanding and memorable performances. I have to say that they both really put on a very moving, emotional and powerful performances, and they brought the movie to life on the screen in a very enjoyable manner.
If you enjoy Asian cinema and have a liking for dramas that are down-to-Earth in a believable and realistic manner, then you most certainly have to sit down and watch the 2018 Japanese movie "Siblings of the Cape", if you get the chance. I thoroughly and genuinely was very much entertained by this movie.
Sure, I don't really understand the meaning of the movie's title, but I enjoyed the movie nonetheless.
My rating of "Siblings of the Cape" lands on a well-deserved eight out of ten stars.
