As a metalhead for over 30 years, I was seriously eager to watch this but it is a bit disappointing in that it leaves out a lot of history and makes it seem like women in metal is a recent thing. How about Lita Ford? Where are the Petrucci sisters from Madame X and Vixen. Black Lace, Acid, Femme Fatale, and etc? Women have always fronted excellent metal bands since the late 1970's so it isn't a recent thing. Other than that, I found the documentary really interesting even though I prefer more extreme metal. The problem I have with these bands is that although the vocals are top notch and the songs are excellent with great musicians is that in concert the volume of the vocals tend to black out the rest of the band i.e. Nightwish, Arch Enemy to where you really can't hear anything else but the vocalist. Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford were sometimes guilty of this as well when I saw them as well. Great and powerful vocalists like Dio, Halford and the great women in this documentary needs as powerful band behind them to maintain that balance and I don't think they have musicians that are that quality. Other than that it is an interesting documentary with great interviews and decent metal songs.

Let Down
Same coin, different side
Anyone who still thinks Metal is a male thing ... well be prepared to find a whole new world. As with almost anything, you can't put a gender on something. While certain things may be dominated more by one gender than the other, it does not mean it should be a surprise to see geniuses from the other gender going at it.
And it is refreshing to hear the voices - but not just the voices behind the singers, but also the thoughts they have. The struggles they have to go through ... sometimes worse than anything their male counterparts have to deal with. For unfortunately still obvious reasons ... still this isn't just about Metal (mostly, but not just),but it also isn't something feminist either. Although I understand if that is how you'd like to celebrate it.
Watch it to get a new perspective, if you didn't already own that ... no pun intended.
