"six hours later" as the beginning frame of the movie?! six hours after what? i shouldve quit there and just had a laugh, but i couldnt pass up an opportunity to check out this tale. 80% of behind camera staff is credited to one guy, and his production company blip is an absolute direct ripoff of blumhouse. also, he shares a surname with the two stars - this has got to be great. quick pass - twin girls who look like they wanna be in "the ring" can cast supernatural activity into real life from their dreams, chaos ensues. but wait, theres more! just a few nibbles from the first act to give you a taste of what youre in for: when grandpa comes back to his own home after running errands, he rings the doorbell and waits to be let in. very soon after, he does 3 (three!!) of the worst "stage pours" ever committed to film. if youre pouring a drink and then drinking it, liquid should come out of the crystal decanter and into the clear glass. 3 times. also he either has no real lines in the script, or the producer/writer/director does not care that he awkwardly fumbles through the few he has. this is all within the first 15 minutes of "somnium," which im more and more convinced is latin for "asleep at the wheel"(somnium is, in fact, a novel written in 1608, also a brand name for the drug lorazepam). there are terribly choreographed fights, someone dies and clearly continues blinking and breathing, the sfx arent, the list goes on. we do get a "twist" at the end, which only serves as an opportunity for the cast to try out british accents. you gotta see this movie. take notes, i would love to see more reviews. there are so many terrible moments ive already forgotten. this is a true borderline "zero or ten" film

Sets the New Standard
"Somnium" sets the new standard for absolutely awful movies. Direction. Plot. Continuity. Acting. It's all far, far beyond terrible.
The premise is that a grandfather has been saddled with the care of his twin granddaughters, who are possessed of unexplained paranormal powers. Their mother left the girls in Grandpa's care because she couldn't handle them.
Long story short, three burglars break into Grandpa's house. We have Louie, Ricci, and Miles. Louie is the burglar with a heart of gold, while Miles and Ricci are basically scumbags. Upon breaking into the house, Miles jumps Grandpa, and Ricci sucker punches Gramps, knocking him out. Louie intervenes to keep Miles and Ricci from roughing Gramps up more than they already have.
Miles grills Gramps, who gives the burglars the location of the safe in the house, and the combination to the safe. He asks Gramps if anyone else is in the house, and Grandpa lies and says no. While the trio of burglars splits up to loot the house, Miles finds the granddaughters unconscious in bed. Furious that Grandpa lied to him, Miles rushes back to the old man and roughs him.up again. Once more, Louie intervenes.
Louie drags Grandpa into a closet and leaves him there to go and continue searching the house. Ricci shows up and taunts Grandpa, ignoring Grandpa's pleas for his heart medication. Grandpa dies shortly thereafter. It is at this point that the twins enact their revenge upon the burglars. The twins have the power to telepathically enter another person's mind, search through it, and make manifest their worst nightmares and memories.
When I say that the acting is terrible, I'm being kind. Just prior to getting jumped by the burglar, Miles, Grandpa pours himself several drinks. You can clearly see that in two of the supposed four shots that he takes, he tipped the decanter, but never poured anything into the glass before drinking from it.
In a nightmare sequence for Louie, he takes a beating from his mob boss father's henchmen. You can clearly see that the actors are going through the motions. It's ridiculously obvious that they aren't touching Louie whatsoever, even though this is supposed to be a brutal beatdown by half a dozen thugs.
I've seen some terrible, terrible movies, and even ended up liking some of them because they are unintentionally hilarious. "Somnium" doesn't even have unintended comedy going for it. It is atrociously, abominably bad. This may very well be THE worst movie that I have ever seen. It fails on virtually every possible level that a movie can fail on.
Creative Independent Film
Somnium is a story about sisters with supernatural abilities. When 3 burglars break into their house to rob the place, they encounter a lot more than they bargained for. I really appreciated the creativity in this indie! I'd highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good indie horror film!
