Despite the false genre promotion and IMDb lie about male nudity, I still got a good movie out of it.

I was told this was a comedy set in a Hooters' style restaurant. Well, funny thing: it's not.

Uh, I mean the comedy part. This literally couldn't be anymore drama. Admittedly, there was one, maybe half-a-scene of intentional comedy. The rest was the day in the life of a bar.

And from moment one, it actually drew me in for two main points. The inner-workings of the girly bar and grill and the absolute wonderful performance and character of Lisa, the General Manager played by Regina Hall. She was absolutely mesmerizing.

I'm pretty much given the plot synopsis, but the full idea is, for 24 movie hours, the camera follows around Lisa as she either starts or puts out other people's fires for 90 minutes...one after another after another. It was as if it were all a couple of one-takes. And along for the journey are 100% realistic employees, customers, bosses, friends, interviewers and a husband.

Standing 10 feet above all other believable actors in this was Hall. Her character (and acting) was so deep, I could not distinguish her from a real-life manager who's perfectly flawed and has an absolute unselfish driven heart. I've worked for people like her and believe me, they're enormously rare in this world. Cherish them if you have one in your life.

Moral: Never Underappreciate Good Management. Oh, and don't let your horny little mind dictate which movie to view. You might get just some good drama out of it.

Plus, you can always go to a Hooters for the real thing. If you're into those kinds of things.

Final thoughts: I was fooled, indeed. Along with being told this was a comedy/drama (I was more interested in the comedy part,) I saw a still shot of this movie: 3 "Hooters" girls and one gorgeous Asian (and Mexican, per IMDb for actor, John Elvis Lara) on a bar, only his shirt is coming off or on - I couldn't tell from the pic. I read further and IMDb stated male nudity. This "plot keyword" is not true, but that was my bad for attempting to pick a movie on just that.

My good was finding a gem I had never heard of before. Glad I watched it.

The film is billed as a comedy but turned out to be all drama. The only irony was rule one was "No Drama." Lisa (Regina Hall) is the manager of a Texas restaurant called "Double Whammies" because all the good large breast synonyms are taken. She has issues with the boss and some of the girls. Oh...and the cable is out!

I kept waiting for the plot to pick up and have some sort of twist or meaning. It did not. The script didn't give the actors a chance.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

I've never been to a Hooters and while the place our main character works has a different name, I think the implications are clear. And the message overall is one I fully can get behind. So I understand if you felt this deserves a higher rating or were more inclined to cut the movie some slack based on that (merit) alone. For me it was too on the nose.

The movie is of course trying to be subtle and to tell its story in a way that does not distract too much and is focused on the everyday drama. But when the final third of the movie is fully on its way ... and the drama gets heightened and characters do stuff that surely are liberating to them, but bad for "business" and not helping anyone really in that situation ... there are questions you may raise and ask yourself. Or maybe not - as stated above you may not care about cliches (the boss who is clearly out of his mind) and other things ... the movie drags which is hurtful to the cause in my humble opinion.
