This murky little horror film involves a woman who may or may not be going out of her mind who gets a job as a security guard at a run down old apartment complex which has been long since abandoned. Her only company on the job is a fellow guard, cynical and disabled. The woman becomes convinced that a sinister presence lurks within the confines of the building and takes it upon herself to investigate...
As you'd guess from the premise, CONFINED is very much par for the course for this type of film-making. It feels a lot like GRAVE ENCOUNTERS and the like, albeit without the 'found footage' hook and shooting more traditionally instead. There's a lot of stuff with CCTV footage, which is quite neat, but more often than not the film descends into the usual wandering around in dimly lit corridor type scenarios.
The film lacks decent cast members; those present are okay, but hardly electrifying. Jason Patric (THE LOST BOYS) looks so unrecognisable that it took me half the film to realise who I was watching. And despite repeated efforts on the part of the director, CONFINED doesn't manage to be scary for a moment.

A STUDY IN OVERUSED THEATRICAL JUMP-SCARES
"The Abandoned" (US title) and "Confined" (UK Title) are the same film. Julia (Louisa Krause) has mental issues and is on meds. She has one last chance to see her daughter Chloe. While she aspires to be a nurse she gets a gig as a nighttime security guard of an abandoned palace hotel. She works with the condescending misogynistic Cooper (Jason Patric). Julia sees things and Cooper doesn't trust her. She discovers a locked abandoned section and enters. She walks through the rooms and hallways and entertains us with rapid panic breathing and gasps. Why? I had no idea, the scary stuff comes later.
Eventually all the mysteries are revealed to us in a way that was idiotic and anti-climatic.
Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
I wish I abandoned watching it
The Abandoned, a title like that lures me to watch it. I should have read some reviews before even though most of the time I don't agree with the ratings on IMDb. This time I do agree. The story is just not good enough to make it special. And the ending is completely ridiculous. I was going to give it a five star rating if it was not for the end. The acting isn't great either. The dialogues are pretty basic. Besides an odd strange appearance every now and then there is not much creepy about this horror movie. The only special effects, if you can call them like that, are things that are a bit shaking or moving by itself. You have to show more than that if you want to make a good horror movie. A waste of time and money if you ask me.
