A beautifully depicted masterpiece

I was absolutely astonished with how wonderful The Air I Breathe turned out to be. I was expecting it to be really good, basically because of the star-studded cast I believe it has, and in the end, I got an amazing journey with a beautiful story everywhere I looked.

First of all, the actors and actresses of this film make it absolutely unable to miss. They all capture their characters perfectly and make the film unable to look away from with their dedicated, spot-on performances. The plot was also majestic and deep. It was touching and moving in so many ways, and they way it all made sense in the end was simply brilliant. There is not one scene where I thought the creators have added in something mediocre or unnecessary, and there was not one scene where I pressed the pause button to do something, for I could not stop watching it.

It shows how everyones' lives all intertwine in some way and how one person's honest actions can affect the life of another who honestly needs help when they can't find it anywhere else, and it is honestly as beautiful and worth the watch as I am making it sound, honest. This is a must-see, I recommend it for everyone, and usually the haters have to complain about how boring and confusing it is, while I found it at the right pace to keep your attention and understood everything the film meant for us to understand along the way.

The air is rancid.

A genuinely unpleasant crime drama that is torture to get through the exception of a few unintentionally funny scenes that I felt guilty about laughing at, this is another one of those dramas that shows humanity at their worst. Reality, yes, but reality is something that movie audiences deal with everyday, so when they want to be entertained or learn something about life or how to deal with trauma or unpleasant situations, this is not at all enlightening, just depressing and unpleasant.

You've got some great actors here, and the performances are real, but the characters are mostly real jerks. It's a mob related story focusing on crime boss Andy Garcia and debt collector Brendan Fraser who seems to have connections to organized crime. There"s Forest Whitaker who ends up robbing a bank, Emile Hirsch as Fraser's nephew who goes a little too far in trying to collect a debt, Sara Michelle Gellar as a troubled actress and Kevin Bacon as an overworked doctor. Hirsch gets a hysterical beat down by a tough female clerk, but then Fraser takes her down with one hit that had me laughing yet in a guilt ridden way.

The character that Gellar plays is perhaps the most complex, changing her attitude to become softer as her storyline develops. The real problem is in the extremely convoluted script that doesn't present these characters as realistic in most cases or in ways that you care about their issues. It's another ugly view of life that shows why many movie fans have given up on modern cinema. Garcia's character is perhaps the most despicable, and efforts to give him any sympathy just all flat. This is just one of those films that you can't wait to be over. It seems to be celebrating the fact that humanity is a mess and really has no point even in have being made.

Better than ...

Not the sum of it's parts, I think the separate stories work well, even if they'd stand alone or were told as short movies/films, but better than other movies who have only one storyline. Especially the Brendan Fraser storyline reminds one of another movie (Next, with Nic Cage),but "head and shoulders better"!

As I stated this comment will include spoiler and while the storyline mention above was a bit vague and not that much of a spoiler, I'll refer now to the end. Because as with all good movies, that have multiple story lines, this one concludes at the end too! And it has a nice feeling to it too! After some carnage (or at least downsides) it is necessary! I really love this movie, because of the stories and because of the actors! A little movie that could ... :o)
